Why Did My Clones Shrivel Up And Die?!?!?!?

im debating getting a tray with the little individual squares in it. the ones that have like 24 or so little 1inch x inch cubes equally divided so you can fill with medium and put clones into there. that seems like it would work best. that is what i see Jorge C. use in his video. i know im getting better, cuz they didn't die on me yet. but the way they look, it appears as if they could be a little better.

Here is a guess. maybe its your soil having allot of nutes they don't like right away. I have never tryed to clone in potting soil I use jiffy pellits soak them at 6 ph they are neutral and contain no nutes. I use the same method you talked about in your first post and have 100% everytime also i use a dome for the first 4-5 days

Maybe they were not deep enough and air was getting to the roots.

MAN!! now im super confused. someone just posted a few posts back that the cups may have been to deep, and to add less soil. this is the ideal medium to use (if you are to use soil or anything of the nature). i could try those pucks, put i do not see how a skinny little puck would hold up a tall lanky cutting. could you by chance post a pic? you are speaking of them jiffy pucks, correct? the skinny little disc shaped things??

Yes the jiffy pucks, they make them in a few sizes i use the med size so they can grow and get heavy roots before I transplant into 5gal's altho I see alot of people using the super small ones. one tip with them make sure you get them in the pucks nice and pinched in there so no air/light can get to the roots

i just smoked some of this stuff called Fuel in a swish and i feel good..bongsmilie

getting a tray with 1 " cubes is a great idea thats what i use heres a in depth how to clone i get 2 litres of water luke warm add approx 4 ml of 1 - 1 - 1 nutes to it get my ph down to 6.4 i also add 1 ml of H2O2 to this mixture
soil i use is seedling mix soil from MG any brand will do i also add peatmoss approx half to half ratio i find it works well
then useing my sprayer i wet mixture till its good and moist you can squeeze it you will here it squish thats good enough once its ready i place it into my 1 " trays packing it in fairly good then i use a tooth pick to make my holes in them trays
once done i then get my clones useing a razor i will locate my clone i will use once cut i place it into the water making sure there submerged and then i will grab a clone cut my leafs litterally in half thats the big ones the little new growths dont touch i use a wooden cutting board which i sterlize useing H202 then i place a dab of rooting gel onto the board thats where i will do my cuts on stem i will place my finger below the bottom leaves on stem around 1 to 2 inches holding stem down i make my 45 degree cut then making to more cuts above more like shaving once thats done i place into my gel for a min then into my holes in soil firmly packing the stem up good once your done mist your plants and dome place under floresecents and after - 4 days start misting 2 times a day you will see good strong roots in 8 to 10 days your good to go

I use the soil cubes with that trey & a dome. I get near 100% success. Can I ask, when you make the 45degree angle cut, are you doing that with a clean sharp razor underwater? I always make the cut under water and immediately put it in the soil cube. I cover the clones with the dome for 3x days, keeping the clones and the inside of the dome misted. After the 3rd day I remove the dome & only replace it if heavy wilting occurs. I only use pure drinking water to cut the clones in & to water / mist them.

If you cut the lower fan leaves in half on your new clones, it will promote them to root quicker without using their energy stored in the leaves.

actually i have never tryed doin it under water i take my cuttings leaving them in submerged water takeing one out i kinda carefuly shake excess water off them as for leaves not to stic to one an nother cut my fan leafs then once thats done i dip my razor into gel then cut my 45 degree angle as well as 1 - 2 little slices up the side kinda making like a fish hook if you catch my drift
see once out of water 3 seconds later there litterally on cutting board which i placed gel on there to cover any open areas
as wel as raw said by cutting leaves in half your also helping plant not to be 2 top heavy thus creating a droopy look to them

i need to take care of a few things, then ill go back to the hydro store. the dude who was mentoring me went and opened his own shop, so i can still shop at the old store, i will go where he goes as he is my mentor, i still need every day help and that is where you guys play a very important roll. THANK YOU ALL WHO HAVE HELPED!! im going to try a few different things today. and see what i can do with what i have. i really need to get some new supplies for this and being flat broke this week and rent being due is not helping me. i see rolling coins in my future! im going to try less soil. i also have a been cutting the clones at a 45 angle AND cutting about 1/4-1/2 inch up the bottom. i have a few that look like they may take. i took them out of the dome today and under the t8. once they start growing and i know for a fact they are no longer cuttings i will start feeding and transfer to the t5. i am starting to have a lot more fun with this new hobby. now, if i can only figure out how to rid the bugs i have, keep a 5ft plant from not growing anymore and the drying process i am fearing so much at the end i think i will have everything under control. im already getting my 2nd garden ready. the living clones, and these other 5 seeds i started will be my second trial garden. until i have no problems, and no shitty looking leafs, no bugs ill start looking for more advanced help. im also debating ditching the coco (Sunshine Mix Advanced #4) for a soil, organic based pre-mixed bag of Roots Organic, and see what my results will be. i have some pretty special seeds im saving until my skills are honed in to a more advanced level. until then, im still a no0b learning the curve.

man, im hella baked!! mixed some Headband and some Skywalker Og and a little Pure Kush in a pretty decent size couple of bowls and being the veteran puffer i am, im highly surprised how ripped i am at this moment in time!!

Bro look for a new mentor, this knob at the hydro store is steering you in wrong direction, sending you broke.

not at all.... you do not know my situation. i infact did not need anything new at all. i made a new procedure to make clones and so far this new method is working 100% 5 out of 5 are alive and looking like champions. they are all healthy and looking very good. i will take pics soon, but my new method is basically the same except i do NOT split up the middle from the bottom. i deleted that from the directions, i also added a little bit more water to the Sunshine Mix, AND i pH'd the water to 6.0. made a major difference. i believe that was a factor in my demise. now things are looking awesome. i will post pics of the babies soon!!

sounds good man i don't split them ether. I have about 25 clones rooting right now and they are all looking beautiful.

im soooo stoked i will take pics today. today is day 3 under the dome. should i remove them from the dome if they appear to look ok? out of all the ones i made last time, the one i thought would live, didn't, and the one i thought would die, lived?! it is strange. these 5 look really good though!! after they are out of the dome when are they considered to be in the veg stage? i was told by making clones you cut a few weeks of veg time. if i normally veg for 7-8 weeks, can i now veg for 5-6 weeks? i want to do a full grow of just one strain. im finding out the hard way the effects of dealing with 2-3 different strains. so this new found knowledge is GREAT!!!

FOR THE LAST TIME!!! I AM NOT USING ROCKWOOL CUBES, JIFFY CAKES OR ANYTHING OF THE NATURE!!! I am using a soil-less medium, i do not want to jeopardize my progress by yanking them out of the cups. i totally appreciate the help, but please point me in the right direction. how will i see the roots? will they grow up? i didnt think so. im not that big of a noOb. shoudl i wait for the medium to dry up and then lift them out of the cups? that is the only logical way i think i will see the roots. unless you think i have x-ray vision, which i really dont, i find it difficult to see through the red cups. i will post pics so you have a better understanding of my situation.

Relax Bro :)
Since you cant see roots in your red party cups...... Give them a good week under the dome, then start cracking the dome open to see how they are doing. If they start to wilt, dome them again. Most of my clones will poke roots outa the cubes at about 10 days. The dryer your veg room is, the more you need the dome on them.

sorry. i see then! thanks!! i think i get it now. i haven't taken any pics, but i will very soon. and yeah, one of my buddies told me he always had his veg room so humid he never needed a dome. and i think splitting them up the bottom messed up my progress as well. my new methods are working great. except for one thing... on 2 of the clones, the stems are crooked. on 3 of them they stand up straight and tall (well one is short), but the other 2 are standing up, but there is like a bend in the stem. will they eventually stand up straight like the rest soon? i will be uploading pics here very shorty. so you will have a better understanding of what i am saying. thanks again for the help!!

uhm!!! what happened to the guys post that started out with... "Hey OH"??? i could have used that for research in the future. i have very bad short term memory loss. i think its old age, or the fact that i buff a little too much. either way...where did that post go????? thought it was 4 posts back?
