Why are so many new growers choosing blurple/led over hps/mh??

Read most of this thread....dont know why.

I started in the 90s......BC big bud.
Couldnt get pre mixed back then, had to triple beam the nuits one at a time.
30 yrs ago we produced 8lbs under 2 vertically hung 1k hps/mh.
Cost wasnt a factor as lbs were selling to the states for over $3K.
Pretty cool huh....but that doesnt mean anything. I knew others that were
growing same clones, same set up and getting way less....

Thats why this debate truly is ......dumb.

No one here can conclude my type of light is better than yours.
Its environment, technique, tweeks and just having the talent that for
many will bring huge differences even with the same lighting let alone
trying to compare different types.

Look up "bias"
look up "sighted bias"

Tests that were made on weed would have to be under strict control
and to get true results comparing different grows they would have to
be conducted as "Double blind" or as an "ABX comparable"
So THC levels, Terpene level, CDB......all of it is BS.

In other words the people that do the testing wouldnt know whos
product they were testing or comparing. Even the people bringing them the
samples to test couldnt know.

Its why I laugh everytime I read the percentages on the containers they sell
to us up here in Canada.

As soon as the tester knows the client and $ has changed hands.....the testing is skewed.
Basically all those tests are being done or have been done By Bruce Bugbee at Utah. They have one of a few licences to study medical hemp. You can look him up on youtube. He says led are clearly superior. If one light produces 40% more light is that not better? I think you might have a bias.Led is shown to do a better job in terms of preserving terps. Blue and red are synergistic with UV and IR. The led spectrum with the addition of white light is much closer to the sun. Hps has almost no Uv. I agree hps's true potential is in a vertical set up.Lots of veg time in the setup on the Ukraine thread and a lot of work! Truly outstanding numbers. Not all lab results for potency are real. But their not all fake either.

Hey .Smoke!

Bought 2 mehzi 600w from a swap n buy 200 CAD bucks. Didnt know much about them but did a little research and they are supposed to put out some of the best light for burple. 240w i believe each at the wall according to my watt meter. Cheap, experimental, i went with it. For everyone in this thread, In a 3x3 they grew this monster. 20200131_071349.jpg

Lol so obvs i dont have experience with a quantum board, that will be next. But how much better can it get?

If u get something five hundred watts or more it can get better

I dunno i was just looking at quantums and kingbrights 550 hlg (think thats what its called). Is there such thing as too much light? I know i stressed that one a bit putting the light lower. Thats why i said can it really get better? Are thoes burples in the wrong spectrum? Mine has some greens, white, IR mixed in. Again, I am a novice when it come to led's. Id like to see a side by side of a good burple grow vs a good full spectrum to see how much because im probably going to harvest close to a pound, 1 plant. So if i was going to get 2 lbs on the next grow using a quantum/other, id say fuck yeah.

No......you dont understand.
Show me a ABX or double blind test.......not gonna happen.
Look up "Expectation bias'

They LOOK great, BUT, looks aren't everything. If you're serious you need to send buds to a lab for testing

I will cost some money be prepared. That's prob one of the top reasons I don't have one

Went through the whole blurple thing here with high dollar LED lights. Settled on white LEDs about 6 or 7 years ago, not looked back, just now picked up a 135watt v1 Quantum Board kit for cheap and this unskilled boomer put it together in no time. Most of the rage over blurple is on growing greens.

Damn, those boards are bright, imagine the same will apply to most of the board type grow lights. One thin I noticed is almost no shade on the soil in containers. Siri says it’s 75* right now!

I work for a commercial grow company, and as far as the hps vs led arguement goes...well, this is what happened to the leds that were built for commercial grow demands...View attachment 4445295

They were insanely expensive, got used for about a year, and then we decided to never use them again. Quality of the bud was no different than under hps, just less yield. Same electricity and ac costs.
Is there a pile of those for sale somewhere...
