Who's using General Organics with their Hydro system?

Can't seem to find any posts with people using GO in a Hydroponic system. What have been your results? Is there any special care needed? This is for a flood & drain in Hydroton. Thanks.

Organic nutes and hydro just don't have a very good relationship. People do it, but from what i've observed it is rather difficult to keep under control. In my opinion organic nutes are a complete scam anyways. The elements a plant needs to grow are the same no matter the source. Weather a bacteria shit it out or a guy created it in a lab makes no difference to a plant. Elements are elements. I may be wrong, but this just makes logical sense to me.

Thanks, I have not heard many good things yet. I did find a comparison between GO & GH Flora. GH was almost twice the yield. He did a great blind test, that came out almost a tie ... slight edge to GH.

I started a DWC with General Organics and quickly realized that was a bad decision, switched to General Hydroponics and am using the Lucas formula, so far so good.

Yeah, that's the way to go. Why I would want to change it when it's going so good. Always wanted to try organic. I guess.
Are you using Flora Duo for the Lucas? I think it's based on the Lucas idea.

Ya man, your very wrong lol...the fast easy way to explain it is chemical nutes are made to be taken in by the plant immediately and organic nutes are really food for micro organisms in the soil, they then produce the by product the plants can take in..failing to feed the organisms in the soil results in dead soil which doesn't matter since your kind of cheating..I personally like using organic nutes I feel like the plant lives better that way and the herb comes out cleaner burning and overall better..I guess a comparison would be using steroids instead of growing muscle naturally by eating a proper diet..

(bioponics)
you need to maintain a colony of micro organisms living in a suitable substrate
these micro organisms will convert the bio food to usable nitrogen for the plants
putting regular organic food into the hydro system without an established microbe colony
will result in nitrogen starved plants
hydro system that do not use any or little medium will not work very well alone as the microbes
will have nowhere to live they do not like living in water or reservoirs so you can buy or build
a little home for the microbes (biofiltre)

I don't mean to get off topic, and the first part of your post is legit, but i had to chime in on this. That is, by far, the worst analogy ever. Chemical nutes are in no way comparable to using steroids. It is actually much more like taking vitamin supplements in place of food. Steroids enhance muscles beyond what they would be normally capable of while chemical nutes are often refined from the same source that you would use organically, they just refine the bullshit out to make it sterile and available to the plant immediately. Please don't confuse people more. It seems like they have a hard enough time on this site. :S

Ya I see where it could be taken as chemical = big but what I meant was more along the lines of chemical = synthetic..ya that is a better analogy

Haven't read the whole thread, but I was told today at the grow store that there is a customer using the "go box" or whatever its called, and they said he's having great results.

BUT! There are 2 things in the box that can't be used in hydro systems, can't remember which ones. Funny this was brought up here, after he just mentioned that today.

And as far as the steroid analogy-- yeah, good point on that not being a good analogy, lol.

The way I look at it, is like this: synthetic = soluble, organic = non soluble. You can call hydro nutes "synthetic", when really they are "chelated" and more often that not from natural/organic sources. They are basically just salts, and water soluble. Thus the plant can immediately uptake them with water when they are fed.

Organic nutrients, ACTUAL organic nutrients are not readily available to the plant. They have to have bacteria (beneficial) to break down the nutrients into forms the plant can handle, like breaking nitrogen based stuff into ammonias and nitrates.

I guess now would be a good time to point out that if you're gonna go TRULY organic in a hydro/aero setup, you couldn't run a sterile res. You would have to use innoculants and beneficial, and couldn't use peroxide and stuff that decimates all microbes.

I use GO in my hydro setup. I run my GO nutrient mix with aeration for 24-36 hours, until it has foamed up and subsided. I then place mix into my reservoir. Plants are thriving. I know this post is 6 years old, but I just came across it, and thought I would add my insight.

Hey, new membe here. I literally just got this account to ask how everything is going with your plants lol. So how are they doing? I am caught between using GO or GH for my first hydroponic grow.

They are in a small cabinet, so they are not large, but they are doing well. The only thing I can say, is to watch using the biomarine. I will be cutting after week 4 of veg next time around because it gives the nugs a funky fruity new age home-grow smell. After 3 weeks of discontinued use, they are back to their original genetic terp profile.

Also, try finding “pond filter balls” and using a few to help house the bacteria to prevent root rot and damage.
Thanks for the info. I think i'm going to go GH this time around and get some of those pondballs and a few airstones.

Girls are looking lovely as ever. What's your setup?
