Who uses Root Riot plugs? I'm just wondering what method may have worked better than others using the Root Riot plugs. Just toss the seeds in and let em pop? water glass/papertowel then put into the root riot. Hoping some of you use them :) Thank you!:joint:

I do, I just started growing last year and ruined many fine $$$$ seeds, now what works for me is this , my daughter the nurse brings me these 4" petri dish, I cut a piece of paper towel put in it, wet it with Arrowhead Distilled water, put 4 seeds, roll them on the wet paper towel , I put the lid on the petri dish to keep the moisture in, I do NOT cover the seeds in water, instead there's enough water to keep the sides of the seeds wet but covering them, place the dishes in a piece of aluminum foil and sit it on top of my refrigerator, that fucker is always hot on the rear top of it.

now for the plugs you ask about, I bought them in the kit with the plastic dome/tray , I put them into a sealed large bag and I added a bag of MYKOS mycorrhizae and moisten them with a spray bottle, in 48 to 72 hours ALL my babies are popped with a 1" tap, I use my wife's old pair of hair tweezers, I take a plug and I ripped it down in 2 pieces along the middle hole, I gently put my tap seed in it like I was making a sandwich, put both halves together and put them in the tray , and then I cover the top with a bit of my happy frog soil , and do not put on the lights, in 24 to 48 hours they all pop out, as SOON as they do, then I turn on my 6500k 2 bulb fluorescent and they start growing like wild. you need to be ready with a growing bucket and you soil ready to go by the time this all happens as the stems grow TOO fast and will break.

those plugs covered with those granules of mycorrhizae make those roots VERY happy in 48 hours the roots are all over the bottom of that tray, oh add enough water to the bottom of the tray to have water evaporate and create a nice humid environment.

oh if you want to try something other than the petri dishes, I just saw a post from south america , and this dude does the paper towel in the paper dish , covers it with another paper dish so that the top dish sits snug into the bottom one, he staples it on the edge and HANGS the dish over his refrigerator, he says he gets STRAIGHT tap roots that then go into the grow plugs without having to cut open the plug. what ever works and does NOT brake those delicate tap roots floats my boat

Scuff the seeds.
float the seeds in a cloning/rooting solution until they drop. 12-24 hrs.
Moist the paper towel with the cloning/rooting solution.
Zip-lock bag 12-24 hrs warm, dark place, you should have germination.

Use a tweezers never touch your seeds.
Transplant the sprouts to the grow plugs.
make the hole in the grow plug bigger, I use the end of the tweezers.
when you sow the seed you want to see the top of the seed coat.
If you can't see the top of the seed your planting to deep for an already germinated seed.

Good Luck on Your Grow.

I just put 5 seeds onto a wet paper towel and covered with another paper towel

checked after 24 hours and all 5 had shown the tip of a tap root

i put my little finger, nail deep into some soil and hey presto. All 5 are through the soil now and looking healthy

easiest way if you ask me

you would be surprised to the quality of some seeds coming from seed houses. TOO OLD if you ask me, because all are done in the same method yet some just never even pop a tail out

I'm willing to take the wrap for now as I'm only into my 5th grow so far with auto's and photoperiod plants, but the day is coming were I can see it's not me, it's the seeds. when all else is equal and some of a "type" say the free ones they give you do NOT pop , it tells me the store is giving what I pay for , squat . yes I know most freebies work out, and they do, but do the math

I love Root Riot cubes!!! They are the very best for cloning. They make for the perfect environment for sprouting seeds too. Why risk breaking the tap root and use paper towels; they can dry out or get too hot also. I pay $10 to $20 for each of my seeds so I don't take chances.

I suppose they are a tad better than paper towels (they do have microbes), but every post I see where someone is using them (and I have used them in the past as well) they either notice or I point out, if you look under them you'll notice the tap root pokes out not long after they sprout (sometimes even before they break through).

So good confirmation that they did sprout, and less handling over PT, but still in my opinion not as ideal as straight into soilless mix. Definitely excellent for clones, however.
