Incidentally, on airstones- the sort made out of sand which has been somehow moulded into the airstone shape don't last very long; they start to crumble after a month or two in nutrient solution.

I use 12inch bubble curtain "airstones" made out of a tube of some sort of polyfoam material. They have a small length of stainless steel tubing inside which weights down the 'stone' but won't rust or corrode. Not cheap at $10 a pop, but they last more than a year before you can't clean the nute salts out of them.

FYI, put your air pump above the tank waterline. If power fails, water may siphon backward into your air pump if it is below the rez waterline.

could you maybe post a step by step guide to building this system?
dude, this is deadly simple. Just a pump connected to a bit of PVC tubing and a few spray nozzles on the PVC tube.

I half expect to find that the water pump and sprayers aren't needed if there's a couple of bubblecurtains in the rez tank. The air bubbles breaking the surface make a nice, fine mist just above the waterline. In the enclosed tank, that would make a terrific misty environment for roots with unbeatable oxygenation.

Wow I would love to build something like this. How exactly would it all come together though? Would the post makers setup look like the guys attachment where theres actual plant spaces and a top on? Would you keep it constantly misting the roots 24/7? How do you get nutes onto plants like this, just let them spray out also? Where is the water getting sprayed coming from a separate resivoir? Would you have to empty the sprayed out water from the bottle every once and while?

The nutes are in the water in the reservoir. What bottle?

Err didnt mean bottle, ment bottem. I would be guessing after a couple days of 24/7 mist spraying there will be water buildup in the bottem of the thing?

I know I shouldnt try something like that since im a complete noob, but how exactly would you go about building where the plants go? You cut the holes out, then I would have no idea where to go from there :O. Whats keeping the pebbles up and would the roots basically be dangling in the air while the water sprayed on em?

well yeah, the tub has the nutrient solution in it. The pump sits in the bottom of the reservoir tanks, in the solution, and pumps the nute solution up through the tube with sprayers fitted.

No, not a 'complete noob' system. Go for a wick system for your first hydro op.

Chances are, this grower will use perforated 'netpots' in holes in the reservoir lid, the pots filled with expanded clay pellets. The clones will likely be in rockwool cubes; once the clones have a spray of roots, the cubes are nested in the pellets and handwatered for a few days until the roots grow down into the pellets.

Can ya give me any links that has a tutorial/picture setup of wick system? And thanks a ton for answering all my questions I understand how this one works now ;p. Couple more questions on this setup though.

Will the plants stay in a resivour that size up until they are ready to be cut? About how long do you change the water/nut mix? Every 1-2 weeks?

Again thanks for answering my questions =)

go to the GROWFAQS section up top under the different systems.

yes, they will...about every week you change the whole solution
