Who here grows outside autos?

I'm in NY(not fully legalized yet) and only ever did 1 half ass grow is soil, but thinking this summer i might want to throw 2 bigger strains in 10-20 gal sips outside and never really come across any journals with outside plants. Just looking for anyones thoughts, tips, opinions and outdoors grow experience to soak up.

Better get them planted ASAP, and hope for the best. Or just like super racy smoke. Most strains are not 70 days like breeders say. I have very few that are ever done before 90 to 100 days. Now i do like mostly Sativa leaners and i do top, so those play a factor. You got to grow them, dry them and atleast few days cure some of the harshness. 4th might be more of a dream than reality.

I’ve not grown fully outdoors, but it seems like some of the big differences right off the bat would be pest management, ipm routines.
molds and bugs can suck the fun right out of an outdoor grow lol.
ipm isn’t a thing I’ve had to worry about indoors but I know that’s a thing I’d have to address outdoors

Matty, as you know, I'm not a true outside grower, nor your typical indoor grower, but kind of a hybrid....indoor sunshine

IMHO...considering NY is not fully legalized, it may be advantageous to keep your plants a bit on the smaller size.

Using a smaller pot also gives the flexibility to move your gals indoors if/when the weather takes a nasty turn
Also allows you to move them around your property to find the sweet spots, which are constantly changing as the sun tracks.

Have you ever consider a hempy grow (drain to waste)... 3 gallon buckets will yield a decent sized plant but still allows that said flexibility.

I'd start treating the area for pests in advance. That was my biggest nuisance. Going in a 10x20 greenhouse this year with the wife's garden. I spray the yard down with Dr. Earth Final Stop 2 weeks before setting plants out/starting seeds. Then once a month respray the entire yard.

Yeah, im very familiar with hempy. I am actually thinking of "renting" a fairly secluded area to try them if i do.

I guess i could have misunderstood, but i gave my opinion on your timeline and it seemed like a "yeah, you don't know shit" response, so my bad than. I just do think you would be cutting it close for plan was all. Especially depending on your strains and techniques used.

They take ages outdoors in my experience. Almost twice as long in poor weather. Depends mostly on how warm your days/nights are and how much sunshine u are blessed with.

Mold is another big pain in the ass I’ve found. Always got mold on at least a couple of buds. But the weather here is often damp in august which I’m going to try avoid by bringing it indoors (no lights)

You get some lovely colours when the temps drop too!

I grow outdoors for mostly for the novelty factor then indoors for my better quality/quantity stash.

I’m gonna start a wee outdoor solo cup challenge in a few weeks haha

I have grown autos outdoors in Oklahoma 2 summers in a row. Organic, living soil, 20 gallon pots, planted directly in the pots, never topped. Fastest one finished 61 days from sprouting, usually they went to 7o some days or so. Early to mid July harvests, minimal pests and disease issues, a little PM, no big deal. Fast Buds Mexican Airline tested 19% thc, decent smoke, also ran some Mephisto. That being said, I'll probably never do it again, because the effects, the high, doesn't begin to compare to photo period plants, which I also run outdoors. If you want small plants just put photoperiod plants out later in the summer.

What you talking about 70 days? an drying an curing? I just germed auto seeds iam planning a early july harvest thats a 100 plus days please read before spurting out nonsense good luck

Ive grown autos outdoors for two summers. Its not bad, but keeping an eye out in late flower for mold and bud rot is a big one. Especially if you do not cover during rain etc. Ill pull my plants in during storms. Ive done some soil, but mainly ill do DWC outdoors as well. For that i have a 5gal bucket that i put into a tote bin and cover. Keeps the res temp a little lower.
Ill be doing photos outside this summer. But pruning and keeping stout, 15 gal smart pots.

@trichomeclown on IG grows & breeds autos outside and if I’m not mistaken he’s not far from NY. Might be worth checking him out, he definitely knows his shit

I have only done a couple autos outdoors, and my later season plant yielded way more than the one i planted as early as i could. The longer days make a big difference
