White paint instead of mylar?

Mad love, my dudes!

Sorry I've been quiet lately; life likes to grab and not let go sometimes... I've managed to escape its clutches for now, and will finish up some loose ends with the design plans and get that grow journal started!

You guys have been awesome with all the help and advice , and I will strive to put it all to use! I have a space of (roughly) 4x4x8 to grow in as it stands right now, but I'm considering going 4x8x8 for more players on the field. I've also got ideas for LST, SCROG and watering, so once it's all finalized, I'll be sure to show it off!!!

Biggest question I'd like to ask - I've seen so much variance in this; how much space does one plant need, on average? I know it can be adjusted with training and whatnot, but is there a general rule of thumb?

Many thanks again!

I haven't used the chip bags
But i do use the windshield savers
The inserts for hot days in your car?
One side is really shiny but its dimpled so may not be the best
But painting my room isn't an option
And I can't afford a roll of Mylar
Maybe this helps
Also I am currently trying just some plain white trash bags as wallpaper
Seems to be better than the wallpaper that was up
The dimpled texture is actually about perfect since it helps even out the reflected light and prevent hotspots. Think about the hammered aluminum reflective inserts in hid grow hoods.

I have the design for a grow setup all ready to go, but recent events have made me put that on the back burner for now. However, I am going to set up a super simple, nothing special area to start/grow until I am able to unleash my creative prowess.

Like many of us, I want to do this as cheap as possible. I have a few plastic shelving units in the garage that I will attach cardboard to on one side, arrange the shelves in a "circle", and grow inside the shelves. I have a crap ton of cfls, and I've also got 2 500w halogen worklights, so I don't thing light is an issue. However, I don't have any reflective material for the walls, tho I do have a few partial cans cans of white paint the landlord used last year that are still in liquid form.

My question... if I paint the cardboard white, will it work? I have seen yes's and no's in my searches, and so I bring it to you fine people.

Thanks in advance!
Even if you plan to use mylar at see point it's still best to use a sealer/primer paint. Gliddens Gripper and Kilz are both flat white sealer/primers with antimicrobials.

That's what i thought when i first saw them.
I've been using them for awhile
My first clone chamber was a milk crate and a cardboard lid i put hanging cfl lights thru then wrapped the whole crate in the window wrap
Works well for my budget

Seriously, you guys are all fantastic! Thank you for all the advice!

I know everyone is super excited for me to get started, and I can't wait, either! I keep going over my design, changing this and adjusting that, and I want to get going... I just can't stop! LoL

I think I finally got it right, and will be starting soon, but I suffer from severe anxiety and stress, and it's hard to shake sometimes. Hopefully, when I get it going, it'll help me focus and forget about stress... *fingers crossed*

Sorry for the delays, peeps, but I'll start it soon! I promise!

Xanax... and indica heavy hybrids..lol

One thing ive noticed is that you will forever be trying new things and experementing. Thats some of the fun. Read read read theres always new stuff to learn. Plus this is a bunch of good guys and gals. Other than a few unhelpful d bags people are willing to share and help those who want to learn. Best of luck, keep us posted.

Use flat white paint. It's the best next to mylar or hammer tone aluminum.

I've heard the hot spot thing but I think it's a myth like water drops and and light burn. It rains all the time in the summer and then the sun comes back out and my vegetables don't burn.

It would take a lot of light to make a hotspot that could burn.

I use the kilz antifungal paint then go over it with flat white. Flat titanium white is a bit better but not by much.

I wouldn't use cardboard. Safety issues. Don't want to burn anything down.

The halogen lights are about useless.
