White Foam In Res

hey i just switched over to 12/12 and thus changed my water and switched to Advanced Nutes. "iguana juice - bloom" i also added VooDoo juice from advanced nutes. this was three days ago, today i open my rez to check ppm and ph and there was like 7 inches of white foam built up on top of the water?? i stirred up the tank and it dissipated but it was back when i checked it ten mins ago. any idea what is causing this?? it almost looks like too much soap in the washing machine but its kind of gunky...any help would be appreciated.

Also when i added the nutes my PPM was at like 900, in two days its gone up to 1500, is this normal?(organic nutes)

It's good! Bubbles are awesome, roots love it! I wish that there was a way to fill the whole bucket with it.

I've been using AN's Wet Betty in my DWC,

its a surfuctant, meaning it breaks up water tension... Meaning more and better water action in the res, and more ability to wet roots.

I wouldn't be too surprised if AN just ads a bit to lineup now, a little goes a long way.

If you have gunk, and it isnt slimy, its nutrient salt that has fallen out of solution... usually due to sensitivity to pH. It's probably the iron from the nutes. The pH has to be low for it to stay in.

how strong is your air pump? a strong pump can create a froth especially with thicker nutrients

ahhh....that sounds more like it and makes more sense... yah i have a flotech pump, which is really a hot tub pump, and my system is designed to run three trays, im only running one so i have my flow valve wide open in the tank bypassing all the extra pressure back into the tank instead of into the trays..thanks dood. K+

what about the PPM rising like that, and no my water level didnt go down, i top it up as required...but it almost doubled itself in like 2-3 days...im guessing thats just the organic nutes creating subculture and thickining up the water? but id like to be sure...

ya know what, i used to use chem nutes and still do here and there, my PPM would go bonkers too, in my case it was the plants drinking more water than taking up nutrients. since i switched over to PBP i see PPMs going down, as it should, do you get a lot of white salt build up at the water line of the tank? i noticed for example GH flora was very salty as opposed to dyna-gro nutes, and the ppm and PH was way more erratic with the GH, i would always have to addback plain water. for this reason i hate GH flora, i am an aero guy and really dont have much for salts to build up, such as RW and clay, salt everywher on tubes and pumps

no, no salt problems at all. infact i actually just had a bit of a problem with a Mg deff. and the plant problem chart told me to add salt to my rez. i gave it a day and the problem cleared up by itself(fan leaves looked like banana boats). i use Advanced Nutes. Dr Hornbys Iguana juice in an apollo garden(http://www.hhydro.com/cgi-bin/hhydro/XHH0295.html)
right now growing "Orange Bull" (Bullrider #21 x Cali Orange).

my PH was all over the place for awhile but i just added so much water to my rez that the plants will take a week b4 i have to adjust it. bummer is its gunna cost me an arm and a leg in nutes =P

well the foam cleared up byitself..the ppl at the hydro store said it was just the good bacteria getting rid of the bad stuff...didnt hurt the plants and everythings rolling along..thanks for the help
