white bugs on leaves

looks like I have a new invader in my veg tent

anybody have any idea what this is? best shot i could get atm

gaahhh pretty sure these are thrips. was trying to recycle my BAS and think my plastic totes must have attracted them.. worth trying to kill these or should I just toss everything and start w fresh soil? im only a few weeks in.

I'm guessing thrips. I wouldn't toss out any good soil like that. I'd add some fresh EWC or vermicompost and hope the microbes and beneficial insects take care of them for me. Thrips aren't that bad.

I would use some Spinosad, like Monterey Garden Insect, or whatever. It's also organic.

I'd get some spinosad too. And alternate between the Trifecta and spinosad, and 50/50 ISO. But like I said before, I'm no expert with bugs. I've only been growing seriously for 2 1/2 years, so I'm still a rookie.

I would also put out some more stickies too. You can almost never have too many yellow stickie cards... well until the are stuck to your hair anyway. Then the cussing starts...

Thanks! I've read about these but wasn't sure where to buy them.

Do you think this 10,000 one would be sufficient for 4 plants in 5 gallon fabric pots in Miracle-Gro moisture control soil?

Yes please!

I'd skip out on Miracle Grow soil for now on. From my experience they come pre-charged with all kinds of pests in the soil. I'd stick to something more cannabis friendly and clean.

Yup, not many in cannabis like Miracle-Gro, it's ok. I'm using it for decades now, never any issues with it outside, growing flowers or fruit, but only just started growing cannabis last spring, and inside 1st time last fall. Honestly I've had no issues at all with it beside fungus gnats. Plants are happy. It works great in fabric pots. It drains to runoff and aerate's well. It also sucks up bottom watering well. No complaints.

Not sure where the thrips came from, but definitely not the soil as they appeared 2 months into the grow. I spend lots of time outdoors and bought a few plants from garden centers last year, so yea. At any rate Guaranteed the soils infested with fungus gnats but I'm not concerned with that, I've defeated them simply with bottom watering, and haven't seen a single gnat since starting that method.

I've just read over that koppert site and learned Thrips really like peppers.... I bought some peppers from farmers market and sewed the seeds from them last fall and have them in my veg tent... come to think of it, the Thrips appeared not long after those got going and I think they may be contributing / helping with the repopulation, and inspecting them... they look like shit.

Going to order those nematodes and toss these peppers.

I appreciate the advice on the soil. Next grow, the plan is to make my own soil.

trifecta + ewc top dress seems to have done the trick. took a few treatments and still seeing some fliers but seems to have slowed down the population, not seeing larvae like I did.

thanks @PadawanWarrior for helping get some views on the thread and helping calm my nerves the other day. finally seeing some growth tho still trying to get my RH up so I am in right vpd zone.

Nice. I don't really worry about my RH even though it's crazy low. Yes my plants would be happier with higher humidity, but they survive. I'm exhausting outdoors and so dry air is constantly being drawn in from outside. My RH is usually around 10%, even lower, since my meters usually just read LL which is below 10.

It's not ideal, but I don't think it's as big a deal as people make it.

word. ive got my exhaust on speed 1, im sure if I cycled it off and on i could get it a little higher. im at 40-50% rn. I know when I've gotten it higher the plants explode in veg. I like that shit tropical lol.

Ya, I'd prefer a higher RH in veg, but I also like venting outside 24/7. I probably should set it up to turn on and off, but I haven't.
