Which led should i pick

.energy is used to create light or heat
:peace: ...and nothing else !

To measure radiant power is a complicate and expensive thing.
And it is not always granted to receive perfectly calibrated results.
So why shouldn`t we measure the heat power directly with a US$ 20,- equipment
to get even more accurates results ?

I know the answer since I asked a certified institute here at the university of my town,
to measure my watercooled led light for lumens and heat output, to certify energy efficacy.

Mr. Dr.-Ing. Trampert , responsable for laboratory-department replied, that his lighting institute lacks the possibility to measure heat power.

A doctor in physics ?
teaching students of his faculty ?
unable to measure the heat of a water bucket ? --- ???
Our planet will die because of stupidity, ignorance and arrogance. :wall::fire::dunce::dunce::dunce:

time is unimportant
before the system stabilized
I don`t have a stabilized system - Vf, If, radiant flux will change with rising temperature, which depends on time and the amount of water.
- But this is not a problem as long as you integrate your results , to receive an average amount of electricity, heat and light. :eyesmoke:

any electrical engineer can measure heat output of a device in watts if he knows the thermal coefficient of the components but people trained in theoretical physics may be good mathematicians but many of them have no training in the applied sciences and probably could not even change a light bulb :):):)

change a light bulb
:peace:
specially the change from an aircooled to a watercooled led light is not that easy without
permission and instruction of granmaster of desaster.

The mighty energy lobby is not interested in energy efficiency.

If you tell them, that in future people will grow their own food with watercooled led light,
generating hot water and heating the home -
driving an e-car and all powered by your own pv- wind or biogas in the right dimension...
they really enter in crisis.

with those amazon LEDs efficiency is less than 20%. 80% of your input power is converted to heat. with high quality diodes efficiency is 50% so only half your input energy is converted to heat and you get the same amount of light with only 40% of the input power. (25% of the heat) surprising how few there are in the LED crowd that can read and understand the test results these companies publish.CFLs and T5s are more efficient than these cheap LED grow lights. bridgelux EB strips provide 165LPW (50% efficiency) at 500ma. and can be driven at up to 700ma without a heat sink and are less expensive than COBs. a build would only require a simple frame to hold them and a little soldering to connect them together and to a driver on mine I use a simple wood H-frame to mount them to
Hey Maurice I've decided to build my own Eb light after seeing yours and doing some research.
Just wondering (as my current design barely will fit in tent) if it would be a problem if the side of my tent were touching the fixture?

Yes, those are too cheap. If you want to try out cheap lights go something more like these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019ETLC7M

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVQ96MW

I will catch a lot of flak for this, and so will you. But if you are just starting out cheap can be a good experience. Then later on you can invest in better lighting if you decide to keep it up and get a decent sized tent.
ACTUALLY .. I used the ViparSpectra myself , and I have grown some decent bud with it for what it is ....Plants actually love this thing ! For the price and performance they are way better than Mars Hydro.

I have moved on to COB - QUANTUM BOARD but I STILL have it for shits and giggles .
And do use it still ...

not a problem as long as the wires are insulated.I put a drop of silicon rubber on the solder pads after soldering the wire but as long as you have an inch of space between strips air flow will be fine for keeping it cool.you may want to add a little UVA to improve quality. 13 watt cfl reptile light works fine or a 10,000k F24 T5 bulb will also work

OK thanks, how many reptile lights would you recommend for a 4 by 4 space?

for that size of space I would use one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/T5-BULBS-T5HO-HIGH-OUTPUT-FLUORESCENT-LAMP-2-4-ft-GROW-BLOOM-UV-1-4-8-25-packs/160895821950?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&var=460130683601&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 a single 4 ft UVA plus bulb will give you plenty of UVA for a space that size. this bulb was original developed to supplement HPS lights but will work well with white LEDs as well. good luck with your grow

I guess yours was a lemon ....or maybe a knockoff ...or 3 party shit .

I still have mine going with ZERO problems ... No diode failures , and been growing perpetual with it before I built my current rigs ..... Speaking of that shittiy MARS HYDRO ... I " BUILT " a Quantum board modification- I gutted the original shit BLURPLE panel , used one of the drivers and installed a QB304 Quantum .... It blew other panels out of the water ... I was growing killer plants with ONLY 50 watts ... ( see pic )

YES ... THAT IS THE ORIGINAL MARS HYDRO CASE ( with fans and fan drivers ) intact ... I painted it in a dark hammered finish ... The vents and fans kept this build hella cool WITHOUT DIRECT COOLING. It is in a 3x3 tent growing 3 happy strains and using ONLY 50 watts.

Yes ... We know about COBS and other things are better BUT it works .... I also moved on to big better things but my ViparSpectra has done it job ...

Full Quantum rig - 3 panel BATWING build :
image.jpeg

4 panel QUANTUM with COBs : ( 3x3 ) tent : 3500k spectrum
Dual dimming - full passive cooling

image.jpeg

As far as VIPARSPECTRA - I ONLY recommend them BECAUSE I used them ..

Here is the ViparSpectra 600 with 2 ) G8 deep red ( 630-660nm ) lights. They way I used them gave me good bud , so no bullshit when I can mention what they can do.

SO WHEN I CHIME IN ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS VIPARSPECTRA ,
I give the truth about it , I have no reason to prop up a brand UNLESS I know what I am talking about.

I like the job you did on the mars hydro with the quantum board. Could i do this with my viparspectra 300watt?

You shouldn't pick one you should build one, that way you get exactly what you want , you can totally customize it and you can make sure that it is better quality then anything you could get mass produced :)

Whatever, will not use their light again, you guys can continue with it, viparspectra will give you the best products and you can also continue to recommend their garbage lights to other people, earn the fast money from other people, GOD BLESS YOU GUYS

This light is no good for flowering but works very well in veg

I'm also in the market for some new led lights. I have a 5x5 tent and run 2 Mars hydro reflector 192s. I've been using them for 2 yrs now and they work fine but I'm rdy to purchase a new brand. I have come across spider farmer 600w leds that having dimming capabilities pulling 266w from the wall.

Spider Farmer Dimmable Series 600W Led Grow Light Full Spectrum with Refector, IR, Dual Dimmers for Hydroponic Indoor Garden Greenhouse Plants Veg and Bloom https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N9MLO8C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_PU08zb3YD5YXV

My question, would 4 be too many for a 5x5 tent? What I'm trying to achieve is a high par reading throughout every inch of my tent to maximize yield. Given it has dimming capabilities, the par is too high from overlapping footprints I can always turn it down. Seems the way to go right?

Well they cost $200 so I would just go for better and spend either $320 each on these https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/products/260w-qb-led-kit

You wouldn't need 4 of them, 3 would do better than 4 of those spider things.

Or a HLG 550 which can replace 1000w of hps https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/products/hlg-550

But to answer your question. 4 of those would not be too many. But it still wouldn't be the way I would go if I were looking to spend $800

I would seriously consider using the Samsung strips. They should be easier to get hold of in Saudi Arabia. Maybe someone like Digikey will ship to your country. They will be easy to set up - strips, driver, aluminium frame and a bit of wire to connect strips together. Simple. Also the diodes they use are some of the best you can get and will definitely work. You won't be left wondering if when you flip to 12/12 they will flower the plants properly. Just choose the CCT you require - 3000K for flower and 5000K for veg would be my suggestion.
These strips come in different lengths and diode qty and so are perfect for your situation. They are also perfect when height is limited.
