Which is better?

2 x 600w hps for flower with a 2x4 lighthouse veg tent with fluorescent 4 or 6 tube t5HO

Or

1 x 1000w HPS with a 600 adjustable for veg (400mh) in a 3x3 tent or 4x4

Have a 12 plant count limit so I was thinking for the twin 6's ..to veg 4 plants 4 weeks, take clones, put them in flower veg clones 4 weeks take clones put in flower etc.

Or 6 plants veg under 400w MH 8-10 weeks while 6 in flower under 1000 watt hps

Which one would you do?

In my opinion 2 400 in a small tent is better than a 1000. I run 2 hoods in 4x4 tent temp is controlled at 75 degrees

I have a spare bedroom, that's my flower area. However the veg tent will be in there with it

1000's produce way too much heat for such a tiny space. I would say go with the 2 400's mh. If you can do 2 600 mh that would be a good way to go too. Also look into the iGrow induction light. From all my research you can get the yield of a 1,000 watt without all the fans and extras for 60% less wattage. Their 400 watt induction lights are bringing in over a pound per harvest. They are expensive though (roughly 2x's of a 1,000 watt hood and ballast) but you save 60% in energy and the bulb lasts 10 years. Plus you have way less fall out of light at the edges and it's one of the only lights actually made for plants. 1,000 watt hps lights and MH lamps are actually designed for the human eye and not plant growth and flowering. I can't wait to get my induction light at the end of the month.

NM...didn't fully read the post as well as I should have. I veg under t5's and they work great. You can dial in the light spectrum you want. 2x4 tent you can probably run a 6 bank t-5 for veg and come out fine. It really depends on how big you want your plants. 2x4 you are probably going to have plants in there tight. I think you may need more room for 4 plants if you want to get a decent size harvest off of them. So many things to consider. Like How are you going to flower Scrog or standing. Strain type (Indica,Sativa...the booshy autoflowers). Flower room space. You could grow 1 monster plant in a 4x4 and mash a pound or you can grow 4 small plants and mash a pound. It's all personal preference. But 600 watt gives you the most efficient light for the price. T5's are actually more efficient than MH. A 420 watt t5 eight bank has more lumen than a 400 watt mh. PAR is better as well.

even consider 1x 400w and 1x 600w both HPS and alternate them daily to get that famous Dutch "LEAN" going very freaky as the plant photo morph toward the on light, tho I think T5 and T8's are great many have now been superseded by the convenience of digital Mh/HPS systems

Nice concept. I've never done it like that. I have seen some crazy stuff like that from LED systems (though I've never grown with one) where the plant goes all nuts. I'm actually trying to get away from the HPS and MH systems. Too much heat, Too much power being wasted. Most commercial growers here in Colorado are actually changing to these induction lights. No HVAC to run. No need for an electrician. You can run them on 110 and be fine. Less amperage (like less than 2 amps so you can't fry yourself with it), Less wattage, Less fans (no need to move the heat because it's almost non existent), means less power. Same Lumen output and a much better PAR. Way longer life, 75000 hours before they lose 10% of their output lumens. Where as HPS and MH bulbs die off quick. I don't know though. I think we as growers have kind of been throwing a major part of our profits to the power company. There are finally people coming forth with breakthroughs to get away from the energy hogging ways of the past. Just my way of thinking and my opinion though.

They have some really good info on the You Tube about it. Just type in iGrow or induction lighting. If I can replace a 1,000 watt and get the same results with 400 I will do it every time. People forget how much power you are actually using. Fans eat up a lot of power too.

induction is still best as a supplement. the intensity for a higher yield just isnt there. kinda like led, the science is astounding but the results arent.

in the year 2020 there will be some fine gear.
People pulling over a pound on 400 watts isn't a joke. If you can do it. Most growers can't get 1 gram per watt. I've got 1 gram per watt off of t5's and at good size harvests. It's all on how you grow and the quality of light you give them. 1,000 watt lights haven't really changed in 50 years. Even if the ballast is digital the bulb is prone to break and degrade rapidly. It's all on personal preference though. Just saying that people shouldn't over look this technology. Especially for the efficiency aspect.

I have a 8x8x7 room, a 600w lumatek, a 6" hurricane extracting outside, and a 1000w solis tek matrix I can trade in for $400 towards something else. I have a 12 plant limit, and my veg cab must be included in the room assuming autoflowers isn't a suggestion.

How would YOU set it up?? (Without induction lights)

I'm with the Velvet Elvis. T5's for veg and probably 2 600's. You'll get better use of your energy with the 6's over a 1,000. 8x8 is going to be tight. So on a 4x4 veg tent you can fit 6 plants in there and be alright. But on the Bud end they stretch...Sometimes drastically. Like 30%+. Sativas can stretch like hell. I prefer a good bit of spacing between plants to keep things easy to work with. Plus plants touching is a good way to transfer problems from one plant to another. ie: Bugs/Fungus/Disease. I would do something like 6 veg (in alternating stages) 4-6 in bud. Rotate 2-3 plants in every month and 2-3 plants out. Something like this keeps you smoking. But I wouldn't worry about plant count too much. Especially if you live in Colorado or some place legal for recreational/medical. Even if it's medi I wouldn't worry about a 12 plant count if I had 13, or even 20 or so. They aren't looking at the small time growers slightly over their count. They are looking at people blowing entire houses up into grows. I haven't even heard of someone getting busted here in Boulder County for less than 30 or so plants in a long long time. They are after people with 100+ plants. That's a felony. I'm not advising go over your plant count. Just saying that if it's legal for Rec or Meds I wouldn't worry if I went a couple over.

You shouldn't generalize, things vary a lot in other states. It's up to the responding LEO. I have seen many news articles with people over a plant or couple. Then they can not use Medical as a defence in court as they weren't following the law which is very vague and has holes. Also in my state you would be charged with more than one felony, for growing any after you broke the medical rules. I think its bullshit.
