hey everyone, i'm new here.
i posted in the introductory section, but now i found this area and i am trying to make the post relevant and in its right place.

while i may not know much about a dispensary business, i do own and manage a restaurant at the moment, so i am decently clear on most aspects, as far as general FDA and city permits depending on what type of business.
my fiancee and i live in south florida at the moment, but are planning to move to one of your lucky states which allow medical marijuana usage.
we have saved up a good amount of money to set up a business, and what better business than doing something we love and can benefit society? setting up a successful dispensary is what we're looking to achieve.
she's looking to become a doctor as well, so we are definetly planning ahead.

now, what i ask of my fellow tokers is some advice.
where would be the best, most beneficial place for us to move and locate our business?
we do not want to step on anyone's toes, on the contrary, we'd love to be able to get some help from the get go!
i am looking to do everything by the book, so as to not trumple over local laws, although we're very aware about federal laws

please, anyone who has a business and would like to get together and discuss potential partners etc. or if you have experience in growing, with the law, whatever it may be that can benefit not just me and her, but all of us! please chime in!
thank you!

Thanks, both of you

Do any of you live in a area where it's not so.. Overpopulated with dispensaries? I know in some places they're more common than fast food joints.
Once again, trying to provide a beneficial service to the needed community, not step on toes or piss Anyone off.
THanks!

my advice, go into the sticks where the good cannabis is being grow inside and hire them to be your supplier.
condolences for beign in the restaurant business, 20+ years for me and the best thing I ever did was find a different job. much happier, better hours, better social life with friends and family. restaurants suck.

where I am at in Michigan there are moratoriums on any cannabis related business's until the AG figures out how to get his head out of his ass. Every county around me has gone "pot-Dry" no grow-ops, commercial or otherwise, no dispensaries , and have taken custody of a friends house and cars for maintaining a drug house, 27 plants allowed 36 with patients. Judge made them wait for months before it was thrown out of jail.
Most smart good growers are underground waiting for the first frost free week to hit the outdoors.

Great advice man! Thank you a bunch for the tips!
Keep in mind, this is going to be In a few moths, so hopefully matters get better from here to there.
So your suggestion, not Michigan?

I don't think anyone "in the business" is going to chime in. Do you want a food joint moving in next to you? Anyone that has growing experience can do it! even if they have never grown pot! It's still federally illegal, Not many big growers want to get busted.

To be honest, your best bet with a dispensary is to keep it low key in a VERY LIBERAL city. Colorado, California, and Oregon can help you out there. However, be careful what parts of Cali and Oregon that you choose to locate your business. LA, though thriving with dispensaries, is very VERY risky because their DA hates pot and closes dispensaries left and right. Boulder, Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Portland, Marin, etc... are all very liberal cities as well, but every now and then a dispensary gets TOO BIG and gets federal recognition, which results in it getting shut down.

Another potential risk is that weed will probably be legal in California in the next two years. It may be legal in Colorado next year (I'd say next three if I had to guess), and Oregon follows Cali's path on most issues so you may even want to consider waiting to see what the next props propose. If weed will become downright legal in a state, then opening a dispensary won't really help you any. However, you could consider opening a restaurant that features a joint for each customer before their meal instead of bread... you already know how to run a restaurant, and finding good weed in a city that has had medical marijuana for more than 5 years is the easiest fucking thing you'll ever do. Another idea is a smoke shop that lets you try out a bong by packing a bowl. The possibilities are limitless. I would carefully read each prop that attempts to legalize weed. Prop 19 still causes confusion amongst the most hardcore arguers. Talking to an attorney before making any action toward opening a dispensary or anything involved with weed is an absolute must as well.

Also, don't ask for emails on this site, the best bet is to pm someone. What many people do here is illegal federally, and I know you have good intentions, but you could see why any grower would be hesitant to email you.

Hopefully this advice gives you some help.

If you read carefully I stated everything is going to be by the books, and for anyone that HAS contacted me, they know I specifically stated I'm not asking for any personal info until I have all the paperwork to show for it.
Of course I sound sketch as hell, but what else can I do? I joined here, like I do tons of other forums to get some insight and guiding from fellow tokers. Reason I JUST joined is because I now have all the money I need to be able to MAKE it a legitimate business.
If my post feels like it's offending you or trying to lure you into something, you shouldn't have even replied on it, after all, if I were a cop my eyes are now on you, since there's probably something for u to hide, and IP addresses are VERY easy to find.
Watch out who you talk to, bro. I'm not trying to step on Anyones toes.
