if u dont top your plants where will the buds come in at?

when you top 2 more shoots will grow out and up and thats where the buds will be

so even though its not topped will it still have a decent amount of buds??

as long as your growing it right yes. but topping will give you more usually.

its a first time grow and didnt want to top and mess up the plant, so didnt do nothing just feed and water.

Yes as long as you dont kill the plant . However, if you do not top you will have one large main cola. With several other smaller colas.

It'd be pretty hard to 'mess up'......
If you try to top it, and accidentally go down a little too far, that's not a bad thing.
You just learned how to 'FIM'.

fimming is actually just shaving off the newest growth on a branch where the buds would be ready to form during veg..
topping too low down could cause multiple new shoots with some growing taller / smaller then the rest.. i made that mistake once.
