Oh I see. We shouldn't be encouraging him to buy Chinese cobs though guys
i wasnt encouraging anything. >66 cents/watt for a blurple with no specs is a horrible investment when youre getting into real cob pricing at that point. like that 1212 light engine i priced out above was cheaper than that and its a real citi that will last that you can turn down to 170 lm/W operation as your budget grows

On the ebay description ... I'd really be surprised if all of that info was available though.

The chips should have something like max lumens....just looking at one without any info regarding light intensity is like flying blind.

"The following kit includes a CLU058-1825 COB in your choice of color temperatures, mounted to an active cooler with a quiet 12V fan. Includes a pre-mounted modified 90 degree LEDiL Angelina reflector

Light engine requires 50V and the heatsink can handle up to 200W of power (3500 mA)

Best efficiency is seen at 100W or less, approximately 60% efficient at 50 W and 50% efficient at 100W (3500K, other color temps vary +/- 5% in efficiency). May be used passively without fan below 50W "

have you guys seen the latest offerings from Area51 LED . net
I know a lot of us have picked thru and scrutinized the pricing of the parts on all the kit suppliers. But im having trouble seeing the value on this $295 kit.

(2) cxb3590 holder, reflector etc $110
(1) 180mm pin heatsinks $25
(1) LPC 100 driver $25
cost to include mounting, and wiring of 5 wires $135 !!!!!!!!

Ol' bank-account-screenshot had me at LPC.....

Youre having trouble seeing value where there isnt any
= perfectly normal.

Cheers to you for checking up on the most laurel-resting bastion of mediocrity on the prefab circuit...I forgot they existed.

All these premade kits have me scratching my head.

Robin's approach makes the most sense so far....but someone has to just develop a build your own fixture utility akin to the build your own PC utilities or choosing options for your car.

First...Choose your overall wattage >
Then...Choose your driver (s)>
Choose your chips>
Choose your holders>
Choose your heatsinks>
Choose your frame>
Free screws, wires, pots, wagos with $XXX purchase

All of the dropdowns are only populated with parts that are compatible with the ones youve chosen from the preceding options so you dont buy the wrong shit.

Bonus calculator has you input your $/kwh, tells you how much its going to cost to run the setup for a year.
