When will we know the fate of Prop. 19?

Wow the ignorance in this thread is unbelievable. We have power over the government and the DEA cant arrest people for growing because they dont have the man power? Holy shit people. Get yourselves together.
Go back and read what I wrote again. You're putting words in my mouth. We do have power over the government. If the people would stand up and say "enough!" we probably wouldn't be in our current predicament. I never said the DEA can't arrest people because they don't have the manpower. I said that they made the same claime when 215 passed and they are currently only going after the biggest and the baddest. If 19 would've passed that probabaly would not have changed. They don't have the manpower to currently go after all the growers in cali so how would they have the manpower to arrest everybody if 19 would've passed? Common sense people!:-?

I love how people that vote yes are blaming the ones that voted no, it is what it is. I live in cali, I voted yes 19. Even though I haven't read the bill. Which I probably should have voted NO. But the fact of the matter is, even if it has passed for medical purposes, does not mean that people of California are for decriminalizing it for recreational purposes (Big difference between Medical vs Recreational). Remember even though we are a blue state there are quite a few conservatives that live here, and they are caliconservatives, meaning there may be a small percentage of them that would be for medical purposes vs recreational and its there vote we needed to get 19 approved. And like most people I know, they vote NO on everything if they don't know what is in the bill. So unless you have specifically been following this or other bills. Someone might just mark NO. I marked NO on everything except 19.

Peace

I guess America isn't ready for legal weed yet. Thats too bad. I bet it will be a long time before anybody puts that on the ballot again.
I don't know who was behind prop 19, but they really blew it by not getting the medical marijuana users to support it. Maybe they could have worded the bill better to avoid all the confusion it caused. Or maybe a lot of the medical people figured they have what they want, so screw everybody else. I don't know.
Anyways, it's sad that If you want to smoke a joint just for the hell of it you still will have to hide it, or lie about having something wrong with you and get on a list the government made.

^ Process of elimination?

In all seriousness though I was really hoping that Prop 19 would pass. I read the bill and it wasn't that bad. It was actually pretty good. Bitching about not being able to smoke a spliff in public or the oh so tiny 5' x 5' grow space is extremely trivial. It's quite disappointing that its reasons like that that shot the bill down and turned fellow stoners against it.

As pro MJ as I am I still don't think it is one of those things that should be flaunted for all to see in public. Most places you can't just drink a beer in public (with the exception of bars and a few designated areas) and I agree with that. There are kids to think about, not to mention people who just don't agree with it or like the smell or whatever. We need to be respectful of others in these types of matters. I hate the smell of pipe tobacco so I can't stand it when someone smokes one in public. I don't think it should necessarily be illegal but that's a big problem in this country these days. People think they should just have the right to do whatever they want to and screw anybody else if they don't like it. And I agree with that to a point but my rights end when they begin to infringe on the rights of another. It should be that way for everything. If people would just be discrete, and respectful of others there would probably be little need for prohibition in the first place.:weed:
Well said and I totally agree. (Except for the pipe tobacco part :D) +rep.

Just my thoughts. I'm not trying to throw hate at the NO voters. Peace.

Watch them use this prop 19 vote as a reason why they should crack down on the existing patients and dispensaries.

exactly.
even though maybe the bill wasnt set to how people wanted it. it never wil be! so you should take the chance to legalise it whenever you can. atleast we could of all been at ease just that little bit more if it was legal now.

You are absolutely correct. I keep saying we have to share the planet with people who don't agree with the use of cannabis. We have to be resepectful of these folks or it's never gonna happen! There are a lot of things to consider and a lot of unknowns so this was a baby step but a baby step in the right direction. Who knows how long this will set our cause back?

This was still very close, 54%/46%. Over 6 million voters so far on both sides and that says a lot. It got as much attention as most any other proposition on this year's ballot.

Prop 19 may not have passed but it shows that people want it, the other 46% won't be forgotten about and there voices will be heard again. Hopefully sooner than later.

I'm glad it didn't pass. I'm also happy that it was such a close race. That shows the voters in CA are ready for legalization, but are also taking the time to read the bills and voting intelligently, rather than with haste. It was on the ballot in 1972, and now again in 2010. I think we won't have to wait so long for it to come around again and perhaps it will be better written this time around.

The fact that this election brought out so many conservatives to the polls didn't help either. I bet they could have passed this thing if they would have put it on the ballot in 2008.

I am definitely more conservative than liberal and I voted yes, so there is no way to know how the vote was split. I note there are a lot of counties that are thought of as liberal that were on the no camp. A lot of growers that were afraid of losing their income. We may see that same sort of thing on ANY attempt to legalize.
