When to trim leaves

I'm just under two weeks before I can sex my two oldest plants. My question is... Can I trim the leaves back some? Will it shock the plants? I have big leaves that hang down and some of the shoots(that will become clones) are pushing up from under the leaves. Some are even tangling through the leaves. They seems to be fighting for the light. Thanks for the help in advance.

only take off what u have to which i think is: leaves that hang in the soil or leaves that cove a topper, i've heard off people trimming the leaves up to the top of the plant but i do a lot of lst and i dont think its appropriate
