Now I don't know any Moderators on here personally, but please, can someone make this a sticky? Or possibly have a moderator redo something similar to what I'm doing here? Thanks.
So about 6 times a week, I see someone asking "Hey is this ready to harvest yet"
And then has a crappy pixelated picture of a plant... Or, a very high quality picture of their plant.. This is damn near impossible for anyone to tell if your plant is ready to harvest... It's a naked eye picture... The only way to see your Buds maturity, is by checking the color and transparency of your Trichomes.
3 reasons why:
1. A lot of strains will say "takes 8 weeks, 10 weeks, etc"
SOOOO many variables can come into play that change this..
The 8 weeks, 10 weeks time span given to you by breeders are a RESPECTABLE GUIDE LINE.
2. Unless someone else has grown the same exact strain you are, in your same exact conditions (which if you guys live in different areas and don't know each other) then determining is slim to impossible..
3. Pictures may look way bigger or way smaller and sometimes this plays tricks and illusions on our field of view. What looks like a 4 foot plant to me in the pic, might actually be a 1 ft. plant...
And even then, the size does not determine the maturity of a plant...
Now,
What are Trichomes? Definition: a small hair or other outgrowth from the epidermis of a plant, typically unicellular and glandular.
These are the little crystals that appear all over your bud when flowering.
How To Determine Maturity And When To Harvest:
What you will want to do, is get a 120X microscope, put the scope right up to a bud, and look at the color and transparency of your trichomes. From there you will harvest depending on desired high.
Check the chart below as an example.
So please people! Harvest by Trichomes! Not by how old or how big it is! Good Luck And GREEN MOJO TO ALL!!!!
