How soon can you cut back the lighting to determine sex, such as size of plants ?

speaking in a genral sense, once your plant stops making secondary and trinary leaves (that is, leaves with less than 5 fingers) and starts producing mostly primaries (leaves w 5 or more fingers). once that happens (depending on the genetics) its usually a strong indicator that the root system is strong enough to support its main life cycle.

not sure what your getting at. i do mine 12-12 from seed and they often show sex or even start to flower from 2 1/2 weeks old......

If you are planning on putting the plants outdoors during the summer and if you started them indoors, just to give them a better chance of making it, and you start the plants out with 18/6 and were to turn it down to 12/12 to find out the males before planting when would be the proper time. I guess if you start them out at 12/12 from seed and they start to flower in 2 weeks anytime would be fine.
