When to check for sex?

when should i be checking for sex? I dont want to have any more plants (males in particular) than i need to, so i was just wondering when is the normal time they start to show it?

couple weeks after going to the 12/12 cycle, usually.

as soon as i put them on 12/12 i check daily.

they will also start to preflower after 6 to 8 weeks from seed maybe a little longer depending on the strain and their environment.
