Since none of the experts has answered, I'll take a shot. Definitely wait until the weather has warmed up enough and the ground is thawed (if freezing is a problem in BC). Don't plant if any late spring frosts are expected. When you're certain spring-summer weather has arrived, double check with local gardeners to find out if they have planted summer crops. If it's warm enough to plant beans, corn, squash, and tomatoes, it should be OK for cannabis. But note, salad-type plants like lettuce, spinach, broccoli and cauliflower can tolerate cold weather that would might kill or damage cannabis, so don't use these to tell you when to plant your good stuff. Simply put: no freezes, no problem.

BC gets pretty cold, id say beggining of june. You know the weather in your area best, as soon as u feel there wont be any cold nights ahead, go for it

mid Feb if you are in the lower mainland or the island.... the garden flowers should start sprouting in the next week or two, that may be a good time to plant your clone.....are you using pots or striaght into the ground?

I just started 5 seeds today, will use CFL's to get them going, then into the sun

I don't live in BC but no where in Canada will you have a crop in the ground mid febuary... Earliest he'd be putting them in the ground would be end of march if he was in or around vancity. I know in van there is also more of an issue with it being too wet early in the season rather than it being too cold which is just as problematic for young seedlings and plants.

I wouldn't put in the ground this early, but would in a pot.....the temps will typically be above 10C, outdoor flowers will be planted soon, we get spring a bit sooner than the rest of Canada

oh I see, that makes sense... Vancouver makes eastern ontario look like the north pole. Mid feb here is still deadly cold and I was snowboarding till the end of march last year usually even later...
I really need to get out there :bigjoint:

you can snowboard/ski until June at Whistler

The consensus throughout Canada is June 1- July 1 no matter where you live from Victoria to Summerside, PEI.
I dono where you're at in BC but it rained pretty much all June last year (im pretty sure- i was very well medicated the whole summer lol.. But it was sunny on Canada day and warm from there on)..
The rain killed a lot of peoples tiny clones they put out in early June, I had all of mine tarped with a clear plastic sheet from Home Depot til the rains broke in late June. If you are trying to get a lot of yield and need to pre-veg the clones outdoors I would suggest trying to tarp yours during June and planting sometime after June 1st. You can lift the tarp in the middle of the rain for like 5 mins then put it back over them and its a free watering lol.
If you can plant a ton of clones you can not risk the rains and plant in July.

I thought 4\20 was the rule of thumb to start beans indoors till planting season comes ?

I just wanna add its not about temps and even rain as it is about sunlight. if you plant in feb-march the plant will flower if youre lucky and if it continues vegging it is doing so at less than 12 hrs to maybe 14 hrs of sunlight. There are days in there where the plant is going to be a little confused - why some go into bloom on you - and in that time there is a huge risk of stressing the plant into a hermie. Especially if youre topping, training, etc or growing a less vigorous clone or bagseed.
I know many people will say no but seriously from the Bay area of Nor Cal to Vancouver Island any serious grower is taking extra steps to control the climate (light, heat, humidity, etc.) to grow in the winter/spring time..

So, I had an outdoor grow in my back yard in Cali when I lived there... When "June Gloom" hit, the plants got confused, and I had three out of six show sex, not all mind you, 50%... weird... So I chopped them early, made room, and planted three clones to take there place... which grew full, to about 7 feet...
So my question, is if you vegg a clone in inside 18/6 or whatever, then you put it in ground, outside, Canada, Central NY, or whatever cold place....
What keeps the young plant from thinking [with only 12-13 hours of sun] that it is not time to bud out ? June 22 the days get longer.... each day, however still less than 18/6....
So just wondering also, when could I plant my Gorrilla Plants...
Corn around here: "Knee high by the 4th of July"
Should I wait till then to plant clones ? Seedlings outside by June 15th, prob be ok....
Short outside grow season....
Thank for the great topic...

If youre in a warm place the middle of may it usually breaks 14 hrs of daylight in north america and that is when seedlings have enough light without a doubt not be confused. This is assuming your seeds are on a direct line of the sun for those 14 hours. I think that is why there is a big difference of opinion from nor cal vs. so cal on this. Nor cal growers are in the mountains with huge redwoods and shit, So cal is a desert climate with less blocking the line of sunlight.
I don't know much about science, but I do know from travelling that the sun seems to rise and set more horizontally and seem to wrap around the sky throughout the day in the north of the US and Canada... instead of in a more direct line from east to west like in california.
It was always more difficult to find an outdoor spot up north because of this.. You need the trees for cover but they can block sunlight at random parts of the day or cut off hours from the morning and night.
