When is it too late to clone?

Hello all,

I'm about three weeks into flowering and I'm thinking about my next batch. I'm wondering when is the latest I can take clones? If a plant has completely flowered can clones be taken and put back into 28/6 or 24/0 so they start vegging?

I realize that to do this right I should really have two separate grow areas but I'm kind of limited to one.

I'm afraid if I take clones too soon they will go directly into flowering mode, since they would be under 12/12. I'm also afraid if I wait too long they might not take.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Kokuma

I don't know the correct answer but... I bought 3 clones of kush x trainwreck. The guy said they had only been flowering for 2 weeks but I would say they were more like 3-4 as they had buds and some red hairs. Once they are in flower, they can revert back to veg state but it takes a long time. I am 7 weeks into these and they are...well here are pics of when they were new and within the week. oh and the last is a pic of 4weeks. Unless your really patient and have lots of space, I am not sure it is worth the effort. I am cheap and am determined not to let my $45 go to waste. I also am doing this for the education. These were shitty cuts to begin with so your milage may very:peace:

Thanks for the responses.

Hayduke - So you believe the vegging process would take a couple weeks longer than usual? Is that a fair assumption? I would almost rather wait a few weeks, as opposed to starting from seeds and ending up with more males.

It usually takes 2 weeks for the plant to switch from one state to the other.

What are you judging that it's been 7 weeks and still not back to veg ?

Once the plant has been in flower and switched back to veg you will usually have unusual growth from switching it, this unusual growth will be there most likely the rest of it's life.

when the plant is dead it is too late to take clones.
Thats the best answer. Yes it takes longer to. veg because they must revert back. If you only have one room you could always reveg the entire plant. Just leave the bottom 1/3 of the leaves and buds(possible less). Probably be ready to flower again before a seed is ready depending on the size of your plant. If its big it will take a little longer. Good Luck:joint:

yeah, if they have flowered already, the re-veg process takes a while as the plant hormones switch. Like I said, these are 7 weeks into the process. they are now in full veg mode with normal leaves, but as she switches back from producing flowers, she throws off some strange looking single bladed non serrated leaves. Mine are probably still 2-4 weeks from being able to get good cuttings from and or flower out. But if you have the time and space, it is quite interesting. Also mine were barely started rooting 7 weeks ago and have been under cfl's so if you are vegging with HID you could expect a faster turn around. But again all I know is what I have read (some good, some bad) and better yet what I have seen. I really don't like buying seeds, mainly cuz of the cost.

It is in full veg. 7 weeks from when I brought the little pathetic cuttings home.

No more unusual growth.

Although the two weeks is good for veg to flower, going the other direction is not something that mary does normally, as she is a perennial (grows/blooms/dies)

As for seeds taking longer...1st pic is re-veg second is from seed germinated 10 days later. the re-veg is a bushy 7.5" but very skinny stems still purple from stress. the seed plant is 12" and has thick stems (measurements on both are today, a little more than pics from 11/15

again, I am sure lots of these kids now much more, all I can offer is what I have seen. Most would not waste the time.
