When cracking beans, I always count the days from seed...as in the day of starting germination.

However to answer your question, I would say veg days start when you get the first set of true leaves (serrated set,not cotyledon's).

With clone I start from the first day I put it in veg room from clone room.

I always wondered was I doing something wrong with mine because my plants aren't half the size as others @ 2 weeks lol.

But I count mine from when they pick the head out of the medium. From that day they are put on a veg light schedule therefore considered in veg to me.

We consider "day one" as soon as it pops out of the soil/medium

yeah it's funny how some people consider day one, when it more like a week one.

Exactly why I start counting at start of germination/days from seed. Then in a log you can see exactly the progress from a starting point that's universal.

I think this question is kinda like the "when do you start counting flowering time" question. Its gonna be different for almost everyone, but really its up to the plant :).

I would generally consider my seedlings to be vegging once their first true leaves open. My reasoning is that from what I've read the cotyledons are mostly there for food storage purposes not for photosynthesis. Thus once those first serrated leaves form and begin to photosynthesize is would make sense to me to say the plant has begin vegetative growth.

Now the plant grows in veg generally until it has matured, and begins to show preflowers. At this point in nature it should be about summer time and the plant will naturally transition with the sun and begin to flower. In our gardens we do cause this transition by switching the plants to a 12/12 cycle. Once the lighting is switched the plants begin a hormonal change inside as a response to having more darkness, and begin to transition into flower. Depending on the maturity of that plant it might take any were from 4 days to 2+ weeks. If the plant was mature before the switch like we discussed, it should take a much shorter amount of time.

Finally its been 4-5 days(we'll say it was mature) since you switch the lights, and you begin to see pistils forming, and the nodes bunching up a bit, and your plant has began to flower. Take good care of it, and show it lots of love, and in (usually) 8-10 weeks depending on the strain you should have some nice ripe buds :).

Never having had this explained to me, I call the first 14 days the germination stage, and count vegging days after that, heres a pic of my last grow at 14 daysNirvana Northern Lights 14 Days From Seed.jpg

I start counting veg when the seedling breaks the surface and is set (planted) in a growing environment. Below are two plants that broke the surface within one day of each other. One was put under lights with nutes, the other was left in indirect lighting with no care or nutes. This is only 7 days growth for both. Can you tell which is which? :peace:
