do i want the water to completley drain thru the bottom?

i had 3 seedlings and there were no holes poked in the bottom of the cups.. so none of the water drained through. and my buddy was saying that the roots probably started developping mold..

i tried it with the oldest/slowest growing one.. just wondering if its a good idea.. hadnt watered them in 4 days.

poke holes in the bottom you tool. when you buy a plant from the store it has holes at the bottom of the pot right? be prepared for root rot.

Yes. drainage is key. and overwatering is important as it removes salts and excess elements from the soil. drainage = important.

you want to water enough to get drainage from the bottom, then just a little more.

also, if your water collects on the top like a little mushy lake, and takes more then 5-10 seconds to seep into the dirt, your drainage is poor. worry about drainage early on, as the plant gets larger, and the pots get bigger, the soil compacts, and adding more perlite/vermiculite is impossible.
