I personally give my seeds one week of seedling growth before I start the veg cycle..
You can start from the day it pops, doesn't really matter as long as you wait for the plant to mature before you flower!!

how do u know when a plant is mature enough to flower
Usually around the sixth node they will start showing pre-flowers.. the spacing of the nodes will go from even to staggered.. this is a mature plant. Sure you can flower them right out of the ground but if you give it at least 3 weeks you'll do a lot better!! If you have room

Seedling stage starts when it pops. Veg starts about 2 weeks later when topside growth suddenly accelerates.
lol, you guys :p

veg starts once the seed takes in enough water to germinate. it will hopefully sprout, cotyledons will spread to take in sunlight and provide basic nutrition to the actual plant growth that emerges from their center. the plant will be in a vegetative growth stage until it either reaches sexual maturity and flowers (ruderalis/autoflower) or the length of daylight shortens to a point short enough to trigger a hormonal response.

if you were to germinate seeds under 12/12, they would still be in a vegetative growth state until they reach sexual maturity. then they would begin flowering immediately after hitting plant puberty, so long as they remain under 12/12.

i've found a good rule of thumb to be veg to slightly more than half the size you want them to end up. you want 5 foot tall plants, let them veg till they're 2.5-2.75. doesn't always work, theres always some that will just not stop stretching, but it works over half the time for me

Seedlings new to dirt spend almost all their energy putting down a root mass to support the plant. That's why the first couple of weeks you see little growth above ground. When the roots grow to the inside of the pot that tells the plant to slow down on root growth and start producing greenery above ground. That's when you see inch-a-day growth and I consider that the start of vegging.

Good luck, BigSteve.
