Whats wrong with my new 400w HPS?

Just got my 400 watt HPS from HTG Supply and turned it on in all its glory for five minutes then it started flickering and pretty much died. Now its looks half blue and half orange and is barely even glowing. WTF. Is the bulb bad? Is this what happens when an HPS bulb blows. Either way I'm disappointed.

Sucks, but you should really be contacting HTGS. Never had a problem with any purchases from them, but I understand they're usually very helpful with order problems. Sounds like you may have a bad bulb.

hi keep us informed on how HTG handled ur problem with the light. ive been to the site n checked out some lights i know that they come with warranties. i am seriously thinkn bout ordering from them n i wanna know how they conduct buziness. so plz let us know..thx..

Hey thanks for the responses guys. I just plugged in the MH conversion bulb I bought and it works, so the ballast must be fine. Plus, the HPS bulb is colored silver near the base and the tip which makes it looked burned out. I thought it was all clear before. Hopefully HTG is cool and sends me a new bulb. I'll update when they open monday and it gets resolved.

they should replace no question asked i had bought a 400 watt also but the cooltube was broken so i called them and i tlk to the manager tom and he said he would replace just like that so u should have no prob man the only thing i would say is that they dont answer all the time you might have to call more then once

did you get the grow brite bulb and the tip shouldnt be sliver my is sivler at the bottom only

It was just the standard bulb. Guess it's kinda cheaper bulb.

mine used to do the same thing, but with my mh bulb.. so i started using my hps or a few days put the mh back in and it worked fine.. i also got my light setup from htg and it is 400watts as well

yeah its a cheaper bulb.When i ordered my 400 my bulb blew out 3 times.Each time I called htg to let them know and each time was sent a new bulb.When i asked what the problem was with the bulb they said they had some defective bulbs.
