What’s the next right step?

Hello, I’m looking for a bit of guidance here….I have 2 plants that are about 5 weeks from seed…feminized Diesel is the strain.
Growing in buffered coco, amended w/ a few different dry organics….EWC, kelp, Gaia Green & insect frass.
I transplanted into their current 1gal pots about 3 weeks ago and have watered w/ tap (ppm 144), plus cal mag about every other watering, and recharge about every 3rd watering, plus cannazym every watering.
They are under a HLG 320 LED…..
I plan on transplanting to 5 gal pots tomorrow as the growth as slowed a little……I’ve topped and tried to open them up with LST, and have taken off a few leaves.
Currently, one plant is a darker green, which may be too much N or just the pheno. But it looks fine otherwise.
The second plant is much lighter in color…..the pics don’t really show it, but it’s bordering on looking hungry. I also spotted some mild spotting on one of the bottom fan leaves…..yellow blotches is more like it.
My question is what do you think is going on??
Could it need more cal mag? Or is she just hungry and in need of the transplant, where she’ll have what she needs?? The new pots are also amended with the same dry organics, with the bottom layer having a more bloom friendly mix. I had planned on letting them get established in the new pots and flipping in 2-3 weeks.
Any observations are appreciated and thank you all in advance for your time and wisdom.

Nothing….I took your advice and started giving cal mag…..and it seemed to work. Now that plant is showing similar “spots” , but also looks a bit faded in general. I’m just unsure whether to increase the dosage or regularity of cal mag or if the transplant into the freshly amended medium will do the trick.
Forgive me if I broke protocol, I didn’t know whether to just continue that first post with more questions or make a new one….so I did both.
I guess I figured I’d have better luck with someone chiming in.
I’m an old dog trying to perfect a new trick. I grew outdoors for quite a few years back in college (almost 30 yrs ago) and 5-6 yrs after…..but this inside farming is a whole different beast. Thank goodness for forums like this one and experienced growers willing to help.

No big deal. Looks like it's hungry. Did you give both cal mag or just that one? And what's your water like? Too much Ca can make Mg and K less available. Also coco and organics don't usually go as well as peat and organics. Sorry if I sounded like a dick, :bigjoint:

You didn’t come off like that at all…no worries.
My tap water is pretty hard….144ppm….and honestly I’ve been really light with the cal mag….only 2ml per gal….and not every watering. I have to water every other day. I soak the medium painfully slow, with a sprayer, until it’s to the point of runoff but not quite there.
What’s interesting is when I moved them from solo cups (to the 1 gal pots), the plant that is darker and hasn’t had any fading, had a rough transition. The root ball kinda fell apart and went into the new mix rather sideways. I didn’t try to straighten it out and have to handle the roots more, so I just left it. The other plant (with the spots) went in clean as a whistle.
Initially that plant (that went in smoothly) grew faster and looked noticeable better….but now the opposite is true. Perhaps the “spots” plant had better uptake from the start and has depleted the nutrients, where the slower starter plant had to overcome a root hurdle and is now getting on with its business……that’s just a random theory that seems somewhat logical….who knows?
Many many other growers have told me that coco and organics was a tough row to hoe.
My last run was done the same way….I started it before I was informed of what a challenge it may be. It turned out pretty damn good considering my lack of experience growing indoors. I grew 3 plants, all different strains which was another challenge. But they all turned out good and I got roughly 15oz total..
I’ve had some very discriminating palates tell me the flavor and smoothness was A+…..so I figured I’d try again and tweek a few things along the way.
I think I’ll do the transplant and see how they take to their new home.
Thanks for hopping in and I’m always open to new ideas and opinions.
cheers.

You have a slight Mg def. I grow in coco so I can't help you. Maybe someone with more experience with amended soilless can, as Mick suggested Mr. Canuck maybe more helpful. Best of luck finishing and your plants look fine so I'd be careful about striving for perfection. The enemy of good is perfect.

Why not ask mr. canuck?
Ha….I think my grows have turned out better than a lot of his.
It took me a while to figure out who he was….folks kept referencing him when commenting on my grows.
I’m not sure what the deal is with him but until recently I had never heard of him.
This style of growing has resulted in faster growth with fewer issues…..and it’s low maintenance.
Once the plants are in their final pots, I’ll only have to water every 3 days or so. I’ll throw a little ReCharge or something similar once a week for the microbial action…..and top dress every 3-4 weeks.
No bottles of liquids with catchy slogans and colorful pictures……just a few basic staples.
I am by no means an experienced indoor grower, so if I can raise 3 plants, get them to the finish line and have a decent yield of outstanding top shelf smoke, anyone can…..and the process is irrelevant as long as it works.
Anyway, from what I have heard Mr Canuck has moved to a living soil grow…..which may be better for him. But I’m betting there is some sponsorship/endorsement $$ involved.
Shoot I’d grow in pig slop if someone paid me to do it. Lol.
Take care and happy holidays

Why did you start another thread?
I’m sorry if that annoyed anyone….I didn’t set out to do that.
I posted the first thread specifically about some faded areas on a few of the fans. Currently, I’m not seeing the same type of fading…..this is more of a spot whereas before it looked more like the green had washed away…..the plant also looks a little lighter overall and growth has slowed.
Different Problem=Different question/thread
I wasn’t sure if I should continue the old thread or start a new one…..so I did both.
Again, I didn’t mean to break any sort of protocol, I’m just trying to get some advice and grow some good hooch….
I hope that explains my thinking and motivations…..
If you have any advice for my grow I’d love to hear it.

Until now.
Good luck.
Too funny…..you didn’t see my attempts at growing with other methods obviously.
I don’t mind being the punchline…..I’ve got broad shoulders so go for it.
All I can say is the last grow, using the same method, resulted in nice finished plants and I had fewer problems along the way.
So if I’m happy doing it this way, what’s the problem??
I never said this method was the end all or that it was problem free…..only that, for me, it was producing better results than my other runs using soil.
Geeez, this Mr Canuck guy must be a real piece of work to illicit this much banter over someone simply using a similar growing style.
Anyway, I’ll gladly take any advice that comes my way and have an open mind.
thanks

Wow tough crowd, talk about making people seeking advice uncomfortable. And who the hell is Mr. Canuck??

Hey your plants look good, transplant and keep doing what you are doing but up the cal/mag to 5ml every other watering and those spots will go away. An Epsom salt foliar spray would help as well using 1tsp/gallon.

Good luck with your grow!

IMO the leaf discoloration looks like pH swing. Maybe i missed it amongst all the razzing, have you been minding your pH? --Mr. Canuck does ;)

Plants look great overall.

144 is not hard water. It’s not RO but it’s well within acceptable range for growing anything including cannabis.

Don't let nobody tell u amended coco is bad. Like everything in life there's a learning curve. I've grown in every medium and coco/soil blend is the best imo.
I think u should've started off kiss. Once u start adding a bunch of stuff u don't know whats truly going on. U don't give it calmag unless it ask for it not before. Only some strains need calmag added (coco or soil). Everything u add has an affect on other nute intake. Only feed and water and cut all the other junk. Then a couple weeks in bloom give it sweetener then last 2 weeks a bloom booster. (Simple) I water every other day and feed every 3 weeks. Kiss all the way. Once everything else is dialed in u can start adding other amendments for specific reasons to enhance your grow. Not just cus u heard about it doing well in someone else's garden. Be able to tell if u are benefiting from what u adding or creating a problem.

The next right step? Get rid of the dry amendments, and start using hydro nutes. Doesn't need to be anything complicated. Coco works great with gh micro/bloom at 6/9 ratio, and mgso4 at 1 gram, per gallon. Imo, coco doesn't hold moisture long enough, to make it a good choice for that style.

Get rid of the dry amendments
Dry amendments work great. Especially for coco. Why would I wanna feed and mix nutes everyday. I feed every 3 weeks. I added soil and ewc so I don't have to water daily. My plants love it. I will never go back to synthetic nutes. My smoke is smooth without flushing and other crap.
