No rules apply for this, but I prefer to wait until maturity around 8-12 weeks minimum. Plants will grow up even when turned.

8 TO 12 WEEKS MINIMUM? JEZZ WHAT DO YOU GROW TREES?
I WOULD SAY 4 WEEKS (1 MONTH) IS A GOOD START FLOWER DATE, YOUR PLANTS WILL CONTIUE TO GROW THROU OUT FLOWERING (WHICH WILL TAKE 8 TO 12 WEEKS DEPENDING ON YOUR STRAIN. IM A sog (SEA OF GREEN) GROWER SO i START FLOWERING 1 WEEK AFTER I CLIP MY COLNES.
GOOD LUCK.

hell ya man, do it now, if you live at home you don't want 4 to 5 foot plants when they are done.
Remember, once you put them in to flower (12/12) they will take 8 to 11 weeks to be done. That whole time flowering they will continue to grow.
Also if you don't know if they are male or female plants you might as well start flowering to see. As soon as you see the males (start growing balls) kill them,, unless you want seeds in your buds. Once you know that you have a female you can clone it and start growing it in veg stage in another part of your closet while you flower your females to smoky goodness.

MG is good for now, I do a half or even a quarter dose of nutes "every" time I water, (every other day) that way you can be sure your not give your babes too much and be sure that they are getting enof. as the plant grows it will obviously need more water. by then (in a few weeks) you should have mastered the art of watering and start gradually giving them more nutes slowly as not to "shock" them. When you flower if you want to stick with the MG, Get there flowering formula,
Regular MG has a ratio of 20-20-20 (20 nitrogen 20 Phosphate 20 Potassium ie Soluble Potash) MG flower is 15-30-15 so it is suited better for flowering stage. Also, strange as it sounds, breath on your plants or read them a book. we release lots of c02 when we breath out and your plants will thank you for it.
Peace.

you are offering really good advice. I don't promote MG for anything, but if you are going to use it, you have it right.. from hat I understand 20-20-20 is adequate for growth and should be diluted as you stated.

I do disagree with the flowering ratio at 15-30-15. I would suggest that may be a little high on the Nitro and Potassium and only suggest a 10-30-10... again though, your info is straight, and that's just my opinion, I'm sure it would be fine as you put it, but thought I should put my 2 cents in... cheers and thanks for the accurate info again.

Oh, and the breathing thing, you're right on too. There is also evidence pointing to that in the myth buster's episode on playing music for your plants. There was evidence that suggested that the plants that were talked to had more growth than the plants that were not talked to, and their explaination was the same... humans breath alot of co2 on exhale, so this was enough to show a difference.. so again.. good advice and accurate, from what I understand.

be careful with the foil its good but it traps heat and makes hot spots
make sure the veg is not touching it or they will burn

I dont grow trees indoors no, but I surely dont flower males. Preflowers come between 8-12 weeks, at that point you can tell sex and work from there, cloning and flowering the larger plant(s) than decide on the best female and determine what clone should be a mommy.

Humm, 8-12 weeks pre flower? you can tell sex in about 1 week of starting your 12/12 flower cycle why the hell would you wast the space and lights growing males with your females? if you are waiting that long to sex your plants, Then yes dude, you are saying for 2 to 3 months (8-12 weeks) you are growing males with your females, WHY?
I think you need to go back to growing 101 my friend, and please, if you don't know wtf your talking about you should not post in help threads. again read what he is asking, ie "when can you start flowering". and the answer is, "As soon as you see the first leaves spout.":finger: (JK)

Lol, i just found the answer to this question a week ago. I just got some new clones and planted them and set up my grow box and left town. Got back and they were flowering already. 2 weeks after transplanted and only 4 inches tall. I pulled a timer off the shelf that was 12/12, so it indused flowering.

Hope that answered your question. Probably get an 8th out of each one of them. They look pretty cool though. Kinda funny.

yeah when going clones its a different story, the clone is exactly as mature as its mother, but for seed the best thing to do is wait for the pre flowers to cut down on light stress since then it shows its maturity, its not a must but your plants will be more stress resistant and itll take just as long to flower as if you waited for the pre flowers. but you must recognize the difference between a seedling and a cutting
