What's going on this time??

It's still a seedling and extremely fragile I would advise against moving it now. If I had to guess you are overwatering. The SF light would be fine to use, but A LOT farther away. at that young of a seedling I had mine 30" away.
Can I ask about watering then? As this seems to be something that is almost impossible to get right for me!

I was giving it 6-8ml every 2 days in the evening, which is a reletivly small quantity! Tried my best to get around the seedling and some around the outside of the soil but obviously such a small amount doesn't go very far at all and of course no run off as soil soaked it straight up!

The soil was usually pretty bone dry each time I came to water, even pushing my finger down a few inches was still dry.

How much less water could I give it?

Some people seem to be ok misting their plants each day, I tried this at first and it didn't work out, then I tried giving far less water and the next one wilted and subsequently died.

I know my RH is far from ideal at 34% but seen plenty of successful growers in those conditions or less. I am going to try the pebble in water method today to attempt to raise it.. dont want to try the wet towel method for fear of mould.

Should I try raise my 300w blurple led higher to give less light as unfortunately I can't get my sf1000 much higher than around 25" away

Humidity is too low for the seedling too. A humidity dome would help immensely if you can't get the whole tent humidity up. If you have a plastic bottle that'll work too. I'm not sure what size tent you are in either. If you can't get your light any higher than 25" from seedlings what are you going to do when they flower?

I use the plastic dropper that comes with the GH pH up/down kit to water my seedlings for over a week from when I plant the seeds. I didn't fully water until day 8 on my current grow, and it wasn't ready for more water until 3 days later. You should be able to pick up your pots and know the weight difference between dry and watered.

I had it under a humidity dome I made from a bottle until it sprouted, I then removed it. Can I leave it under it for longer then? What about airflow?

Yes you can keep it under a dome for a while. You really dont need to add much (if any) water when you are using a dome.

How did you determine when to transplant into the pot? I never use rockwool or jiffy pels with seeds, strictly clones. With seeds I go straight into soil, but in a small starter pot. I think putting the seed in the jiffy pel is where things went wrong. But that’s my thought.

Yeah i always go straight into dirt.

I have been wondering that as between that and the source of the seeds I have tried to change everything else. I like the ease of germinating in the jiffy but it seems to stay very wet up until the point it goes completely dry!

Could I germinate straight in the Verve multi purpose compost?

Of course you could. I’ve done it both ways and obviously putting the seed directly in the soil without germination takes longer, but it does work needless to say. I however wouldn’t place a seed in soil with ANY Nutes in it. Reason being the plant/seed isn’t ready for any nutrients right now because the roots haven’t really developed which is how the plants eats the food you provide it. So the Nutes are basically useless at this stage. I would get some soil without nutrients and and just feed water. Wait until the roots have outgrown the cup/starter pot and then transfer into the verve. At least that’s how I would do it.

Small plants need nutrients to. Just not much. Roots organic original or happy frog or a dedicated "seed starter soil" if you wanna get picky.

Not telling him what or what not to do, the decision is ultimately his to make. Just offering some friendly advice.

This is what works for me with Jiffys' @Blimsa. I know the dry pellet weighs 10.2 grams and fully saturated, 52.6 grams. When pellet drys to 42 grams, I place seed. When it drys to 25 grams, I bring back up to 42 grams with a ketchup squeeze bottle and repeat until sprout. The day after sprout, I place Jiffy in pre moistened final pot that I also know the dry and fully saturated weight. This eliminates guesswork for me. Good growing to you.

Just not sure you would advise buying nutrient free soil... typical cool potting soils are like 14 bucks for 1.5cubic feet.
I just shared what works for me. I can’t justify using nutrients whether in soil or bottle feeding if the plant doesn’t even have a nice root growth yet. The seed germinates without Nutes, just water. So to me it isn’t necessary so early in life. If anything I’ll use super thrive to stimulate root growth, but that’s about it. But like I said, what he decides to do is ultimately up to him, whether he takes either of our advice or not. Not saying your way doesn’t work or isn’t good advice, I just don’t do it. Might have to try it your way once and see what the difference is. I’m always willing to try new things.

These cups have tons of roots at the bottoms. These are the cups i start them in. Do you start in like really small cups then transplant right away?

I was under the impression that the Verve soil was very light on nutes if any at all! I had AllMix which was way to much. I have just ordered some light mix for my next attempt as don't see this one being saved either.

It depends on what I’m growing. If autos no cups, straight into starter pots. But if it’s a photo i use either or. Sometimes I see lots of roots at the bottom too, but the root ball isn’t that developed. So I wait until most of the cup/pot has roots all around, then I transplant. And that’s when I start my nute regimen. But I don’t bottle feed, I amend my soil. I hate bottle feeding, takes too much time and I hate flushing at the end. But once again, that’s just the way I do it. No such thing as the perfect way, people have their preferences and this way just happens to be mine. But I’m gonna try your soil idea on my next seed and see how it goes. Cant hurt right?

If I try to use jiffys again I think I will use your technique. The next attempt I will try direct into soil as after reading more into it I found various posts from people having issues with jiffy pellets. I would like to rule this out next time so have just popped a auto pineapple express into soil to see how it germinates in comparison to the jiffy!

Yeah I always planted my autos directly into their final pots. I use mostly super soil but i cut it with the cool dirt. Ive graduated myself to photos.

Out of curiosity how do you amend your soil when growing autos? Do you still pot up with them?
