What's a state card?

I live in california and Ive been calling different physician offices that specialize in medical marijuana and some of them offer an ID card and some of them do not. They all say they will give me recomendation papers which will enable me to go to the clubs. But the ones that offer a card say that it is NOT a state medical card, its just a card for through them to be more convenient than the recomendation papers. They say that i would have to apply for a state card seperately and that they have nothing to do with that. My question is, what is the difference in having a state card, are there any advantages? And if i get a state card won't my information be turned over to the state?

its voluntary if you want to get it or not... Its basically just more convenient i guess. No it is not kept on the state database or anything it says they just take your photo and issue you an ID number.

If you go to California NORML and go to Medical Marijuana and find the state id card topic. Gives you all the info you need i think.

it's good state wide for law enforcement. it has an id # on it so any officer of the law in the state can verify you over his on-board intra net. good to have if you plan on transporting anything.

So the ID card that some specialized physicians offer are not the same thing as state cards? Or are they?

you have to go to your county health department to register with the state if you so desire. it is like added protection. this is something you get on top of your card from your DR. it is not something you have to have.

What added protection does the state card from the health department offer that the other one doesn't?

the highway patrol recognizes it. i'm sure they recognize Dr cards but i would think a state card would go over easier. i've never been asked to show them so i'm just guessing.

hmmm... I guess its just reassuring that i'm legal. But after reading that thing kushmastr put up about Canada I dont like the idea of the state knowing about my marijuana card.

i prefer them to know. that way they can count me. the more people that are counted the more aware they become of us. that was why i got mine.
