Hi, i just put 2 seed under 1 bowl and 1 plate with moist sheets. it been 2 days since my beans are in there, one has roots but the other ,ill wait for 10 other days max.

i prepared my soil

peatmoss,perlite,mg potting mix,vermiculite.

i just put my rooted bean in a small party cup 1/2 inch deep.

but now i wonder do i put it under light now or wait till it come out a bit ?
400 hps will do good ? if yes how far do i have to put it and what temp do it have to get ? and how many hours of light and night ? and how long before veg ?

thanks !;-)

you want metal Halide for vegging 18 hrs on 6 hrs off
HPS for flowering 12 on 12 off

if it hasn't come threw the dirt yet no need for light

and far enough away from the tops not to burn them. there is a lot of good stuff in the beginner forums. i am no expert at all but just reading alot can give ya a good idea. trial and error my friend. good luck

as soon as there is green you want to give it some light, just don't overdo it, if the heat is too uncomfortable for your hand its too uncomfortable for the plant.

you can use either or, I prefer hps, I use only hps and cfl's for my clones. I like them because they have more lumens, sure mh is better suited as far as spectrum but I find my plants really rather like the hps

there a lot less stretch in the plant if you use MH for the vegging stage. from what i have read any way. im on my first grow with the Mh and HPS set up. from what ive seen already it seems to keep the plant mor short and bushy. From what i have read The metal halide is more towards the blue spectrum witch promotes lush vegetative growth. The HPS is more in the red witch mimics the sun in the fall. there for more flower. like i said no expert just what ive been reading and seeing.

the hps will do good, you dont want it to close while the plant is still a seedling, maybe 1 and a half foot away and slowly bring it down as the plant gets older, you dont want it to close to a seedling, when it a bit older and got some good leaves you want it as close as possible without burning the plants, as mentioned above if the back of your hand is fine under it so will your plant be, you would probs be best to put a light on it as soon as it has been placed in the soil, you could even put it on a window sill till it sprouts, its up to you really, the light schedule i would do for veg would be 18 on 6 off, but every one is different, you may want 20/4 or 16/8 once again its up to you, if your temp is between 70 and 80 you will be fine, i would not recomend letting the temp get above 90, most will say the plants wills top growing above 90 but i know for sure they dont cause i had heat problems in the summer and my plants where fine

good luck

I have had great results with cfls 4-5 inches above my seedlings. I put them under light as soon as they go in the soil.#6 8daysold.jpg#4 11days old.jpg I was using a small rubermaid tote with a light in the top and a pc fan on the side with great results but since I have started growing autos I start them in the same containers they finish in
