What specific type of hydroponic system does the Aerogarden use?

It looks too compact to be Aeroponic.I read a journal where the guy transplanted mid veg because how silly it was to be in there.Kitchen Herbs are fine but MJ should be treated better than that.
Google:diy hydroponics,diy bubbleponic,diy aeroponic
I would steer away from the Aerogarden, find something diy you like, and the money saved go towards lights.IMHO of course.

Manganese: that depends on what models you're talking about. The A/G-3 and A/G-6 are bubbling DWC's and for growing MMJ it's pretty much like pissing up stream.
The seven holes models, by virtue of the circulating pump in the reservoir, are active hydroponic systems. They are not legitimately aeroponics, as the name implies. They top irrigate by from a delivery manifold in the planting deck that delivers a directed drip down on the planting baskets and growing pods. This irrigates and feed the seedlings until their roots reach the nutes in the reservoir.
For a beginner, they're a great way to get into hydroponics. If you read everything they publish with the unit and on line at their web site, and learn a little about our favorite herb ahead of time they're pretty much idiot proof. That might explain the good luck I've had with mine. It's a pricey, compact, complete table top growing system.
PH control is critical and I found Technaflora's, "Recipe for Success," well suited for use in the A/G. Their little $30 sample/starter kit will last you a long time in an A/G.
Just make sure you get the model with the tall, 24" arm/light stand and the hood with three high intensity CFL's.
You don't have a choice of lighting color/wave lengths but you can force flowering by changing the photo period.
They don't oxygenate the water/nutrient mix sufficiently but a five gallon Walmart aquarium air pump and 99 cents store air stone will dot the trick.
Stick with short indoor strains and you should be okay but don't try to grow more than two to three plants in the seven holes model or you'll usually run into crowding problems.
The newer models have a more controllable lighting schedule programmed into their computer than my old upgraded "Classics" but a Christmas lights timer/controller works fine in series with the base and hood.
Do your research first. I hope that helps. HSA
