Pull the plant out of the pot and take a pic. It will be root bound. If it is root bound it doesn't mean it is doomed. It can still develop further but will not grow to it's optimal level in soil. The use of liquid ferts etc. can still supply nutrients.

Do you think that the plant will grow and yield as well as if it had been trans-potted earlier? Do you think it will yield 1 lb. as asked?
like i said..im gonna journal this grow so we will all see the outcome...ill be transplanting either tonight or tomorow and will take pics of roots then...i honestly dont think its bound...but i have been wrong before...either way if it is, its a mistake i will learn from for the future....thanks for the input hashbroh...ganja

It's not that big of a deal having a root bound herbacious plant. As long as it is maintained it will adapt. It can actually be ok to get a little root bound. I like a slightly root bound plant that has gone just beyond an intact rootball. An intact rootball is when a plant's roots has reached the pot and you can see numerous root tips but no circling.

seriously man. this is the second time this has come up and the second time im posting this link. read the fucking thing.

rootbound is a SYMPTOM of IMPROPER WATERING. FDD2BLK proved that multiple times. now can we just drop this????

def a possiblity...i like the smart pots because they are wide and shallow
i love the smart pot idea!! im going to have to get 3-5 for my indoor :D i never thought of that.

Seriously man. If you read back on what I said you'll see that I stated root bound plants can be ok if maintained with liquid fertilizers, etc. As far as the horticulturally correct definition his statement is incorrect. So we are splitting hairs here.

When a rootbound plant is transplanted a lot of the roots are mechanically impaired and all of them cannot get out of their own way to grow efficiently. I do feel that most people wait too long to pot up in soil and would benefit from re-potting when the plant has an intact root ball instead of being root bound.

Just because a plant can be artificially maintained doesn't mean it isn't root bound.
