My grow tent is 2x4 and 5 feet tall. A lady at a grow store near me was telling me that instead of getting the 3 and 4 gallon pots, I should fill my tent with as many 2 gallon pots as possible and that would maximize my yeild. I know that the larger the pot the more bud you get per plant, but is she right that my yeild would be more with 11 or 12 2 gallon pots or would eight 3 gallon pots have been better? Im using a dual arc 1000w with ventilation.

Maybe, maybe not. In theory, by maximizing both setups you should get the same yield.either way. The amount of energy (1000w) you are putting into the grow has remained constant. I would put 4 plants under the biggest pots you can fit in the space. Also, in that small of a tent I would caution you with 1000w and your heat issues in a closed system such as a tent. I hope this helps.

i would think as long as the roots have plenty of room, the actual pot size shouldn't matter all that much .. 5 gallon buckets are good too, they are pretty tall and ya can fit alot of em in there ? just a thought.

She is correct. There is no sense in taking the time to veg a plant in such a big pot when your height limit is 5' overall. Had you a cloning operation, you could use 6" pots to flower in and you could be veging cuttings in a closet while other ones are flowering. This gives you 32 colas to harvest. Some strains will easily do a half ounce on a SOG per plant. If you can obtain that, you can harvest a lb of weed about every 7-8 weeks.

In theory, I agree with the woman. work your way down until you can root 32 clones at a time. Start with maybe 8 12" pots, then work your way to 16 8" pots, etc... SOG in a 2x4 tent has some serious potential, but it is more work. You are talking watering and caring for 32 plants... That would be the most efficient set up. The most practical may be 16 plants, or 8. You have to decide what works for you.

I agree with mendle i have a 3x3x5 tent with 400watt mh right now and it gets pretty warm in there. so i can imagine with a slightly smaller area and 2x the power for the light you mighty have a heat problem.

I have a fan with 500 cfm pullin out air, and its way too strong for that small space so i gota controller to tone it down til i can upgrade to a 76x76x76. When you ventilate from the top and have a passive intake at the bottom of your area, you should never have problems. With my fan running at a quarter speed, my tent stays at around 74 while its closed with a 1000w. No air cooling or anything.
