400 should do it. Im an LED fan myself. Spider farmer, Mars and hlg all have excellent lights for that size grow.

600w mh/hps if you want a big yeild. 400w will work okay. 320w cmh would be a good choice as would 400w of white led's. Quantum boards, cobs , Samsung strips etc. I run 600w of white led's in my 3x3. Bit overkill but I do get heavy yeilds.

I have 2 of these setups. Super frosty nugs with the Phillips 3100K CMH. 1 would be fine in a 3x3. Also the CMH is more forgiving than the quantum boards if you ask me. I have all HLG boards running right now since it was summer, and it's still hot as hell here somedays, but I love when I can turn on the CMH's too.

For reference I started with 2 315 CMH lights in a 3.5 x 8 ft closet. This was my first time and I got like 1.5#. Frostiest buds I've grown yet.

1000watt metal halide would be a good light and will pay you dividens in the end of flower. just need to deal with the heat

No such thing as too hot for an indoor grow. Add air conditioning. Run LED's which run cooler and do better with higher ambient room temps (82-85F). Supplement CO2 and you can run even higher room temps (85-89F).

Toss in a 320w QB 288 or two QB 96's on a 320w driver and dim a bit. That will give you great coverage.

You can get a 250/600w + 10% power boost, 600/400w spring autumn and winter 250/275w in summer, i think the multi/dimmable ballasts are the muts nuts, 2 ballasts covers everything for me from 250w to 1100w.
I'm not sure about dimming a 600w to 400/440w I buy the individual bulbs, with mh you can't or shouldn't dim them only hps.

Has anyone tested the light output from a dimmed bulb I'd like to know for sure if a dimmed bulb is less efficient... Anyone ?

I love Northern California. I lived in Truckee for like 6 years boarding. Talk about an awesome party town.

Quality LED lights aren't cheap. It's less expensive if you wanna build them yourself, but it's still not cheap.

And 3100k worked great for the whole grow. I put clones straight in there and let them grow almost a couple months, and then flowered them. I love the CMH spectrum and so do my plants when I use them.

Hello so how many plants did you grow with this light?
How was the final product?
I use it in addition to a 200w Timber 2vl.
This light in question needs a little help in a 3x3.
Honestly 2 of these would kill a 3x3 with almost prefect coverage.
I have grown nice plants with white led's.
I usually grow 4 plants at a time in a 3x3.
