what should a first-time grower get for equipment?

hey there, i'm planning to start growing in my closet, and i was wondering if i could get a list of the equipment im going to need to get. id like to just buy it all at walmart or something like there, but if there's anything id need to get from somewhere else, id like to know. id rather not do anything too fancy, and would like to spend less than $150 on equipment if possible (if not, a price range would be awesome)

depends do you want do you want perpetual harvest or one grow one harvest?

ill put it like this man... from what I've seen from others, you pretty much get what you pay for! If I were you, I'd take $100 and get the best deals I good lighting I could get! Use the rest for a decesnt fan, pots, soil, cheap ph tester, nutes... I'd at least recommend trying out an autoflower strain to start with which do not require any change in light and flower by their age... 10 weeks from seed to harvest and they're pretty forgiving with watering... really easy to grow.

after that is when I'd start upgrading with some good indicas with a veg and / flower room depending just like what dogglet said... why kind of harvest you looking for.. perpetual or single grow...

Just keep in mind the three big things... AIR, WATER, LIGHT... I just took those and built my entire closest around those!

Hope this helped a bit... I'm not an experianced grower or anything... but I've seen a lot of ppl's set ups and learned from some old timers... and of course... RUI has some of the BEST info your looking for right on here! Just do a search of whatever you want and you'll find it!

Attitude Seed Bank... I ordered them on a monday.. and made it here on the east coast by friday!

As a 1st time grower before you even germ 1 seed I would read all I could 1st , To get an understanding of what is needed and how to put a plant through its cycles to end up with some good fruit at the end .

i don't see how an auto flowering plant would be better for a newb, maybe feminized but really why would you pay for seeds when you don't even know if your gonna kill it, it;s your first time get cfls a fan some soil and a pot but most important read the growfaq and read threads and journals and you will catch on

yea man i highly reccomend you do all the research you can and have your grow room completely set up before you even germ the seeds its in your best interest to be as educated as possible about this since you will be buying seeds. good luck man

to answer your question better it would help to know some more infomation. like are you planing on a soil grow or hydr0 grow?
if soil i wouls say get some cfls for veg & a hps for flower. plan out your grow area. get it up and running then start on your flowering area.you can start growing wile building your flowering area. when getting a timer get two just incase your first one dies. then you have a back uptry manards for your timers. they have heavy duty timers for about $10. get your soil from a nursey i think the only soil wally mart has ismg you will get different opions on mg soil some like it others say it is trash. you will want to check the local nursery for your nutes.get a ph meter read through the grow faq it has lots of useful info in there. well its time to smoke abowl.you might want to try a bagseed grow for your first grow then you don't have to worry if it goes bad & your plant dies or you get all males. cuz your not out any money for the seeds. plus you get loads of exp from the grow.

I completely agree with everyone's comment that more research! And glad to see that ppl also think he should practice on badseed first before paying top dollar for some beans!

However... the reason I did recommend an autoflower is just soley because since it doesn't require a change in light cycle that is pretty good for a newb to be able to focus primarily on watering, temp control, feeding, and the behavior of the plants before taking the leap into vegging, cloning, and flowering and so on... it was just the route I took and think it helped me develop more before I get some nice widow or ak and mess them up...
