All of the above are a factor but not finishing the plant can also mean extra hair if you let the plant go longer the buds fill in more so the hairs are smaller

The pubic cilia are essential to premium pistil production(ppp) the plant decides on how many hairs to grow( some curly )

I've found that sativa's will appear to be more "hairy" than indica's because the calyx's don't swell as much as indica's making sativa pistils more prominent. So genetics play a big part.

Interesting thread. I agree, Sativas tend to have funnier hairstyles. And yes, it is a genetic thing. I like very much the occasional redhead, but they are very rare and their effect tends to be different.

I know some varieties that have been heavily inbreed that have very short pistils. Long healthy pistils are what we like.
