Ive recently given up trying hydro and am planning on going with good ol'
soil. Does anyone know what to look for in a soil and can I get anything good from say Home Depot or Walmart? Any advise is apprecieated.:weed:

I use "Promix" that contains sphagnum peat moss, perlite, limestone and a wetting agent, no nutes (add your own). You can get it at any place that has a garden centre.:peace:

A good premium soil mixed at a 50-50 ratio with perlite or pro-mix (my fav.)..never pre-nuted soils..you control food..easy up if not enough...f*****g hard down if too much...

Thanks for the suggestion. So promix is close to neutral and has no nutes? Also can I use hydro nutes on potted plants? I already have flora nova grow and bloom. I also have something called bush master. are these ok to use with pro mix?

Yep I use hydro nutes too, lol. I just mix a 20 litre pail of water, add the nutes according to that amount of water and ph it. Use that water to water them with. I always have a spare bucket mixed up too, just in case.:peace:

I'm about to go to Lowe's myself. I made the mistake of buying the MG soil with nutes in it.

I'm going to try to pick up the Promix or StaGreen (is this one good)?

You can also try the new live soil HAPPY FROG FROM FOXFARM it has all the trace elements in it and you can put your choice of main fertilizers (3D organics OG series) best that I have found out personally.

Use it as a medium ( base) throw in some coco and perlite and PRESTO! Its PH buffered so you dont have to worry about acidity or alkaline levels. Coco is buffered too. Its the only live soil out there and is alive with beneficial microbes and fungi that help break down organic matter and feed the plant roots. Between the earthworm castings, the bat guano, and the composted forest humus don’t worry—FoxFarm uses only the highest quality, premium ingredients—no cheap fillers, no topsoil, no sludge.

Pro-Mix used by itself has no nutrients other than enough for a couple of weeks after germinating . It is PH treated as well . I love it . I root in it and mix it with my soil and worm castings for my grows .

He wants to get away from hydro so I don't know if straight Pro-Mix is the best suggestion since he will have to feed them a lot more than he would using soil mixed in there .

I'm using MG Organic with 40% Perlite added. My plant seems to be doing OK with minimal nutes. I haven't given it nutes in a few weeks, and when I did it was pretty diluted.

Will I need to feed my plant ferts / nutes or will it be ok for a while?

It's about 6 weeks into Veg, being grown outdoors

Jonnie Iirish,
I mixed one bag happy frog and one bag MG perlite. I can’t get coco so I hope that is enuff. What do u meen when you say “
Dupe down nutes alittle has more than normal! 80%” is that as the plants grow or should I be adding fertilizer to the soil?
