what is the name for what you screw a light bulb in?

very dumb question, but for a standard light, what do you call the "thing" you screw the lightbulb into that has a cable that goes into an electrical outlet?
would you google "socket"? or "light fixture"?

my ultimate goal is to search for a "fixture(?)" that is like a Y-adapter, where i can screw in 2 lightbulbs into the same cord that plugs into an electrical outlet. just trying to find the most efficient way (cost wise) of hooking my lights up
 
Go to homedepot or lowes eletrical department and look for a y socket adapter. You screw it into a light socket and end up with two sockets. Simple
 
If your trying a cheap cfl setup, buy a vanity fixture, called a hollywood strip light in my area, then use a y adapter in each socket to double the cfl's, about as cheap and easy as it gets
 
^^ I use that setup with the vanity lights, 3 sockets but i use 3 Y splitters to make it hold six bulbs. It works great with some 42 watt bulbs

I wanted to know this too. I know the Y adapter thing, but whats that thing in the pic above that the y adapter plugs into so you can plug the light straight into a outlet?? I try searching internet but for life of me cant find the name?
