what is the best way to keep deer away

If you have any dogs, when you go to your patch bring them. Deer will stay away if they leave their scent. Dog doo doo will also work. I use Mothballs in stockings hanging from trees.

Also some fishing line strung between the trees with soda cans with rocks or pennies in them will deter deer. Scare them off.

Other than that putting up a very tall fence. lol
 
lay sum landmines around them, time you have killed 2 or 3 of them thay will stay clear:peace::mrgreen:
 
Dirty underwear or socks, deer repelant .I used to soak rags in crisso but its too hard to find now.Thats the shit they soak telephone poles in,the smell of that shit keeps them at bay.If you can install fenceing around the plant till they get bigger...peace
 
It's called creosote and i've been hunting all my life and have never heard of that as a deer repelant. we have railroad ties on our property and the deer hang out next to them.

predator scent will also work well (same idea as the cat), get it at any place that sells hunting stuff.
 
My grand mother used to garden outside dont know if it would work for pot but it used to work for her vegtables she used to mix up some cayanne pepper and water in a spray bottle and put it around her garden the animals didnt seem to like the smell and always left her garden alone

i've heard of that for dogs and small rodents but deer and elk will take a little more deterrent imo

Railroad ties dont have fresh creesote on them.Ive been doing this since the 80s and it works.Ive also killed a few deer in my time too...peace
 
well i'm a fisherman too so I would not suggest the creosote, unless you enjoy doing your part in poisoning the ground water.

there are other methods that will work just as well and better w/o having to use that nasty shit.

creative idea though, i would have never thought of it.

Actually I read it an old farmers allmanac on how to keep deer off friuts and veggies.I just soaked a few rags in it and kept them freshened up.It seemed to work pretty damn good.I have not had any deer problems on my two spots lately,but you never know when they will show up......;peace
 
Make the hunting season year round.
I know around here Oct. 1st rolls around
and i swear the deer have calenders and
high tail it out of dodge.
The same goes for small game.

that's because bow hunters have been pressuring them for two months before that. a year-round hunting season would eliminate any sustainability that our system has now, then deer eating ur plants wouldn't be a problem because they would all be dead.

it would be nice to keep my freezer full year round though.
 
I use predetor scents, but deer and elk won't stay out of my yard. I send the dogs out and they come back within 5 minutes of comming back inside. You have to remain dilligent though, keep the scent fresh. I sling arrows, but not in the offseason, gotta keep the livestock going. Game management!
 
what are they black tail, mulies? go old school and nail a cat to a tree, i know i aid it earlier but it no shit works. they think its a cougar. the rain has also probably been washing the scent away. do you have apple trees in your yard or are these deer stoners?
 
Yeah, blacktails, and yup I got six apple trees. I don't have any weed outside though, but they can make short work of the tomatoes I have going, the wifes flowers... Well shit, pretty much anything you don't want them to eat. But I don't mind too much, I try to keep em off the tomatoes and kill em in september. 70 pounds of draw weight is more than enough to drop em. Lots of twins this year too. Last year was pretty bad for babies. I think the previous winter was too harsh for them. Three deer died in my yard from starvation, tried feeding them but no luck. One even crawled into my chicken coop and died there. My dog flipped out on that shit lol
 
Hell yeah 70 pounds of draw is enough. That's too bad about the fawns dying last year, but that's nature. I'll ask the old boys around town about keeping them deer out of your yard. It's gonna be real hard to deter them with those apple trees, but i guess you've already found that out. peace
