What is the best soil for starting seeds

I am wondering what type of soil would be best for starting seeds. I have used a pre-mixed soil of mostly peet moss and perlite with a very small amount of nutes, but the growth seems very slow.

anything unnuted... I used to use MG organic un-nuted soil...worked well... now i'm using 1part happy frog and 2 parts perlite.

i had the same problem but turns out it was my light that slowed things down just got a 400whps all good now bro

i know im way behind, but why unuted soil? what if i put a little worm castings in would that not speed things up?

Seedlings are sensitive to nutes in the beginning. Better to start inert for 2 weeks (they have their own food), and then start to build up with nutes.

how can i tell when i should be adding them? and is it true that i should start with work castings and move to bat guano or what would be the best "garden variety" nutes without having to order them.

About two weeks after they sprout...feed them 1/4 strength nutes.

You can add castings to your upgrade pot.

I use MG seed starting soil and have had good success with it. My plants seem to love it and never had any nutrient burns. It has just enough nutes to give it a boost.

I started my seeds in Fox Farm Ocean Forest and i have noticed a little burn. Im hoping it doesnt hurt them too bad though.

I used to start my seeds in normal potting soil.. Now I use jiffy mix (50/50 peatmoss and vermiculite)... Havent really noticed a difference (I just only buy jiffy now cause I use it for clones where it does make a diff)

im using foxfarm ocean forest for my seedlings and it burned the shit outta one. take a look. i hear that ff light warrior works great for seedlings. i wouldnt add nutrients to them until there about a foot tall seriously. i just water my seedlings a little yesterday and the other one is burning up now. they are alot more sensitive than clones. stick to just water and it should help speed things up trust me. if you want new soil, i was told fox farm light warrior works great for seedlings.

I like ocean forest but i'm using MG organic choice now since the nearest fox farms dealer is like 45 miles away. i know people talk mad shiznit on MG but my liitle ones seem to like iit fine.

Careful though. The MG Organic still has same strength nutes.... They're just 'organic' nutes..

i used foxfarm for my first plant and is budding right now. for my other seeds i tried rockwool but most of them never got roots on the bottom and just died. so now im sticking with foxfarm soil. workd for me.

just to chime in. I use Blackgold seedling soil. Alaska fish fert works If you don't mind the smell. I've started that way lots of times. the aff is ez to use hard to burn with it.

Fox Farms Light warrior is perfect for seedlings, It is designed for seedlings, and really gets them going

I'm having the same issues with starting off seeds in rockwool. I dont think I'm going to be using it for seeds any more and just use it for cloning. MG seed starting soil is what I'll be using for seeds since it's cheap and it works.
