What if...

The first Reagan tax increase came in 1982. By then it was clear that the budget projections used to justify the 1981 tax cut were wildly optimistic. In response, Mr. Reagan agreed to a sharp rollback of corporate tax cuts, and a smaller rollback of individual income tax cuts. Over all, the 1982 tax increase undid about a third of the 1981 cut; as a share of G.D.P., the increase was substantially larger than Mr. Clinton's 1993 tax increase

Mr. Reagan's second tax increase was also motivated by a sense of responsibility -- or at least that's the way it seemed at the time. I'm referring to the Social Security Reform Act of 1983, which followed the recommendations of a commission led by Alan Greenspan. Its key provision was an increase in the payroll tax that pays for Social Security and Medicare hospital insurance.

As far as real dollar terms,I doubt it was the largest...

Percentage terms, there's no way it was the largest, that honor would go to Hoover (25% - 73%?) or maybe FDR (73% - 91%).

Note, FDR really was the last president to raise taxes during a depression...

Not to go back to the past but I think 2008 could have been renamed the election contest between Dumber and Dumbest.

Reagan came into office proposing to cut personal income and business taxes. The Economic Recovery Act was supposed to reduce revenues by $749 billion over five years. But this was quickly reversed with the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982. TEFRA—the largest tax increase in American history—was designed to raise $214.1 billion over five years, and took back many of the business tax savings enacted the year before. It also imposed withholding on interest and dividends, a provision later repealed over the president's objection.

I don't think she is a dumbass however and certainly the folks that elected her Governor don't.

Wow, reducing people to their genitalia now...

I thought the left was supposed to be against that.

Like I said...dem's only respect women from their side...such tolerance

Palin is very popular with those who know her best... Alaskans.

She did push through a HUGE project which no one else in 30 years was able to...not for the lack of trying.

People are so willing to be misled by the media. If she was a Democrat, she would've been wildly popular. Back to double standards again...

out. :blsmoke:

I bet she doesn't get re-elected governor......

Next Senator from Alaska.

Since Palin didn't guard Stevens flank, she will not be harmed...she still enjoys the Alaskans support...overwhelmingly. If there is any derision to be found in the great white north it is for the lower 48's mistreatment of her...they know better.

there will be a scandal...she is a crook...you can tell by looking at those beaty eyes.......

I think ted stevens tarnished the brand name for republicans in alaska......
Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter were both pallbearers for the Democratic Party. But they both survived their legacies, as did the Democraps.

You should not underestimate this lady, or the support she brings to the Conservative faction of the Repubusocialist Party.

One of the reasons the democratic party is still deriding her after they won...FEAR. They fear her and well they should.

out. :blsmoke:

OK, well...um, I don't fear Palin and I don't fear Obama. That right there in and of itself makes me fearful. Both show themselves to be either too indecisive....or therefore the extreme lack of being so. I'm betting Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is just shaking in his pants regardless the candidate...pfft.<<<Just scoping the broder spectrum of "the light."
