Yeah and cardboard isn't airtight enough, you want to lock in the mist from the bubbles to encourage the roots to get down there.

did u stir the res well after puttin in ur nutes and then take ur PH, or did u just dump the nutes in and then take a test?

Ya but did ur nutes stir well b4 u set ur PH or did u jus dump in ur nutes and then set it up? Cuz if u don't mix it well b4 u set ur ph, the mixture is gonna change in a few hrs once its all blended in ur res

Judging by the white deposits on the hydroton you have hard water. It`ll take a shedload of ph down to overcome the buffering capacity which resists the ph change and adds extra ppm. If you can switch to RO (or even rainwater) you`ll have an easier time bringing the ph down.
