I just bought some all purpose miracle grow. The numbers on the box say 24-8-16. Is that the npk? I see nitrogen on the list of compounds, but no P, or K.
Yes, that is N-P-K, nitrogen - phosphorus - potassium

Prepare to be attacked over using MG products, but I would plug your ears and hum. The N is too high on that one, If you get a bloom version you can mix them to get a proper ratio. Half the N and that would be a good ratio.

But in some cases you can over do it abit depending on the strain tho. I accidently over fertilized my plant and freaked out but came back the next day and it was way healthier then it already was :) but thats a far north queensland strain grown in fnq

Rock on! Not what I would have done, but, the best way to learn how to grow,is to experience the life plant for your self. Peace, Good luck, and Happy growing :)

If your plant dark dark green. It means too much N. You want to do a balance of N. 24 percent is awfully a lot of N. What type of N is it. The way N is synthesis is different for synthetics. Please stay away from monsanto. Its like giving your plant McDonalds worth of nutrients. Then your going to consume it. Miracle Grow is such a hard product to use for this type of plant. If anything use the tomato plant formula.

Please get some Promix. It will help you a lot. If you do want to add nutrients either from GH, Fox Farm, Botanicare and Technaflora. Pick one and buy the basics. DO NOT BUY extras unless you have some grow experience under your belt. The more products your adding to your mix. The more headaches.

My seed has sprouted, and has started growing its first two regular leaves. Im pretty strapped for.cash right now so the MG fertilizer is what I'm going to have to use for vegatation stage right now, unfortunatelyy. I'm supposed to mix 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water. Ibe read that you're supposed to start fertilizing at half strength, so would that mean mix 1/4 teaspoon for a gallon of water?

There are a few people who grow with MG fertilizer and like it. Nutrients are nutrients. Don't worry about it. There is no premium periodic table of elements and a "McDonalds" version. Much of the dislike for MG is simply an anti "big agro," or that MG is affiliated in some loose way with Monsanto (which at the heart of big agro).

Other brands of fertilizers may be better in the sense of quality control or the inclusion of organic components, the use of stabilizers, anti-coagulants, etc. But, when it comes to purely synthetic nutrients, N, P, K (etc.) are what they are.

Don't worry about it. Enjoy your grow.

Yes, 1/4 tsp to start. Move up to 1/3 tsp next time, then try 1/2 tsp. At some point you'll notice burnt leaf tips. Back off a little. That's the only way to learn. Test the boundaries again in mid flower. Always water for significant runoff to avoid salt build up. Try to get 20% of your container size in runoff.

One more quick question, would it be safe to use 24% nitrogen throught the entire grow?
A commercial fertilizer (in the US, at least) is required to publish the % of weight. This is a consumer protection. It basically tells you that a product that is 24-8-16 contains twice as much nutrient as another product that is 12-4-8. This lets you decide which is the better value for your money. You'd use less of the former, more of the latter.

What's more important to you as a grower is the ratio of NPK. Both of those are 3-1-2 ratio. So, the question you're asking isn't very meaningful without knowing the % of P and K. Even the percentages aren't that meaningful. It's the ratio that matters.

3-1-2 is a little high in N for soil, in my opinion. I'm usually around 1-1-2 to 2-1-1.5. But, there are people who use MiracleGro. It should be ok. You could buy MiracleGro's Bloom product (1-2-1). If you mixed it 75% AP and 25% BB, that would give you an NPK ratio of 1.6-1-1.2. In early flower you might mix it 50/50 to get 1.3-1.2-1. In mid flower mix it 20/80 to get 1.1-1.7-1. In late flower use BB by itself for 1-2-1.

I'm just illustrating how it's the ratio that matters, and you have control over that.

MG also makes a Tomato product which looks good at 1-1-1.2.

I would use miracle grow sparing most people that buy it use it for trees or garden not single plant set ups... just because what you do one small mistake could cause a lot of problems early. organics are nice..... but on the expensive side and don't always purduce the best results. superthrive is great I bought it once and loved it.

Anyone tried Hydro Tops?

(Apparently) it is the absolute best, for flavour and yield, better than Canna.

UK Brand. Designed for the local water. 100% organic, (smells like shit), No PH adjust required.
If you send off a water sample, they will tailer your batch of nutes to your tap water.
Stunning results, Really!!!

The beneficial organisms form the backbone of the Hydro Tops nutrient line.
Apparently Snoop Dog is launching his own brand of Nutrient Line, and he is going to be using the Hydro Tops powder beneficials, and liquid activator in his mix.
