What does everything think of my DIY CFL hood?

That's pretty sweet.. I just started messing with CFLs I built a bucket set up and put 4 CFLs in the top. How many plants you got under that thing?

This is my 30" one the other one I made is 20"

The 30" has two under it. And the 20" is just one. Ive been going budget untill I buy a better lighting setup. The hood as helped direct the light tremendously.

Im going to at a computer fan in the side for cooling, but right now i just have a fan pointed at it. Temps arent too hot regardless.
 
I'm gonna build a cfl hood for my clones.. I'm glad you posted this, I've been running ideas through my head trying to figure out how I wanted to do it and by your pics this thing looks like it works great and simple to build

Yea It was very easy, granted I have a table saw, circular saw and jig saw. Although you can accomplish this by a circular saw and or jigsaw alone.
 
I have a circular saw and a jigsaw along with a full sheet of 1/2 in plywood and a few 2x4s in the barn. I'm gonna start my project in the morning..

I need to get two more splitters, but I can only have 10 bulbs in there. Couldve added more, but I was nervous with electrical load, heat, and just over all concerns with cramming it full of bulbs. Im not bad with wiring, but I doubted myself a little. I even went as far as using romex wiring, just because i know its used for wiring houses, and its safe.

A link for the cfl twin adapters in the UK would be nice, pity you didn't install a pc fan to extract all that accumulated heat ....?
 
Vostok, Ill search for a link for you. Using comp fans was an afterthought. I still could add one with not much work involved. The only thing id need to do is either wire it up so the volts match. Or find a 120v pre-wired comp fan. But right now, I just have a fan pointed up towards the hood. Temps are pretty darn good right now.

If you wanted to know:
Mine is 18" wide. and 30" long @ a 45* angle. My top piece I did at 5" wide. Using a home depot plastic receptacle with splitters and cfl's was perfect spacing from the inside surface.

yeah that many cfls actually get hot, nothing compared to an hid but enough to have good vent wherever you're growing
 
Better than most I have seen. y splitters with a v or u shaped reflector that is 1 inch away from the bulbs is the way to go.
