What do you use for PH metering

Blue Lab pens.

Test the water or nute mix. The sweet spot for me is 6.5ish to 7 during veg. 6.3ish to 6.5 during flower.

Dont have to be right on, but i try...

3 dollar PH drops i got at the fish store...however i do have several meters for coco/dro for other readings...for my dirt its water and black strap only only check the PH when i have time to kill as its right at the cherry spot coming out of the tap

if you're using good soil, it will have ph buffers and you shouldn't need to ph anything. I would check your nute mix to make sure it is in range before pouring it in though, and a cheap ph pen is fine for that.

If you have your own soil dialed in you don't need a meter.

I use quality soil and soil PH level showing to be 7 or maybe little upper side of 7. I was thinking that the water I use (so far I only used rain water) may increase or decrease PH level in the soil and as such need measurements, no?
I ordered a pen from amazon, but its too dam complicated to do calibrations each week and use distilled water after each time I measure PH level. Is that how all of them work? I somehow envisioned a simple device that you would stick into water and it shows you PH level without all those calibrations and complications.

Most good meters don't need to be calibrated nearly that often. I'd say every couple months would be fine, I'm just really ocd and do mine every week so u don't have to be paranoid. Lol. You do have to keep the sensor moist though.

I bought a Vantikool pen-type and it's a piece of junk. I use the drops from General Hydroponics now. I check the water/solution going in and then test the runoff. I try to shoot for a shade of yellow/green somewhere between pH 6.0-6.5. I use General Hydroponics pH UP to adjust my water/fert. solution -if needed.

I also use the GH test kit and drops, takes less han 10 seconds to check ph, seems to do the job just perfect my plants are in great shape. Ive been using the same vial and test kit for 3 grows

My natural well water comes out the tap about 7.5 and 1/4tsp per gallon of ph down per gallon bring it to 5.5-6.0

Recently picked up an 8oz bottle of GH pH up, 8oz of pH down, and a bottle of drops for $13 shipped. Lasts me about a year. Consistency has me at point where I can add pH up to my rainwater before ferts, add fertilizer, and come out at 6.5.
