I have been looking at a lot of pictures on this site and have came across quit a few plants that have these little brown balls sitting on top of the soil. Can some one fill me in on what this stuff is?

Most likely perlite... However Perlite is white, it does get a little brownish from the soil.

No...these look like stones almost...large brown circles?

Is this what your talking about. If so they are hydroton pellets. They are used mostly with hydro systems.

I think you're looking at clay pellets. If you read the posts that go with the pics, you'll see that these are used in hydro setups, not soil.

No, They are 10x the size of those.
That would make them the size of grapefruits
