What do I need for my DIY COB??

They also have 185h-1050b in stock which runs 5.6 so I'd probably end up just going that route. That's pretty close to max efficiency

Bonjour
It you aim for best efficient set up....30w wq/ft is the way to go...1 cxb3590@1050mA and over each sq/ft
20160107_202505.jpg It is what you can grow (1 on 5) under 200w of cxb @1400mA over a 3.5x3.5x4.5 grow box...very nice cobs...i love it!

So you have 5cxb3590s running on 1400ma?
Ok, take the the volts of the cob you are looking at running (most likely 36v) and divide the available volts of your desired driver. The hlg 240 1400ma driver will run 5 Cree 3590 cobs at 50watts each at 56% efficiency... :)

The hlg 185 1400 will do the same with 4 of the same cobs...

I'm running 2 of the hlg 185 1400 with 8 3500k Cree 3590's (4 each driver) so I know and have seen the combo works...

What wattage and efficiency is that? And what's the formula to find out wattage and efficiency using max output, fv, and am?

So you have both drivers wired to one single wall plug, but would I be able to do 3? I'm deciding to just do 3 fixtures with 4 cobs a piece for 12 total rather than 15 like I originally planned. I'll run mine exactly as you've run yours but no monos and active cooling with just a 120mm cpu fan on top of them all. So I could probably get away with 4 cobs on a 2Ft heatsink rather than your passive 3ft (almost).

I have one plug per drive but I picked up a heavy duty 3 to 1 two foot extension that they both plug into. The wires coming off the drivers are on the thick side and it would be rough fitting two much less three into the same plug... I'm glad you found drivers, be sure to get some potentiometers for dimming with the B version of the hlg 185 1400... :)

I'm setting up a peg board to hang my drivers outside my tent Supra style and find a way to secure the potentiometer/dimming as well...

I looked back over the thread and didn't see the amount of area your looking to light so I will make some assumptions here... :)

Quick figures put your 12 CXB 3590 COB fixture over 16 square feet at 1400nm, 56% efficiency and .9 wall/reflector loss being a PPFD of 940.36.... Dimming recommended... :)

Ya dimming is definitely something I want. Do I just need to order a 100 ohms knob off amazon or ebay for a couple bucks?
Once I do have it, where do you Install it? I'll watch growmau5's video again to see buy it'd be nice to have it explained if you can.

I would order 3 of them (one for each driver) and they are cheap. There are three prongs/points to connect wires. There will be a two wire lead on the hlg 185 1400B (white and blue) for dimming. White to the center prong, blue to the left prong if your looking at the potentiometer with the connecters/prongs down or facing you.

Oh damn that's simple as hell. I'm trying to find the 100mm lenses that work over top the chip lok holders. Any idea where you get em? Or is jerry the only way?
