what do i do?! some buds are crispy

while my plants were growing, some had direct fans constantly blowing on them, so i think they are already decently dry.

i harvested everything sunday night, hung them all up to dry in my closet, and now tuesday morning, some of the buds are already crispy on the outside. i think its cause i had a fan ~4' away blowing on it, which i didnt think would dry them so much, but it did. i also have a room fan blowing air out of my closet, but i think that may be too powerful too.

anyway, im going to florida till probably friday. what should i do so that much buds dont dry out and turn to powder when im gone?

can i just store the real dry ones in open brown paper bags? i wont get mold if im not able to shake them around once in a while, will i?

If you were not going out of town, it would be an easy fix. Since you are going to be absent I would recommend freezing them until you return. Put them in suspended animation. Then you can finish proper drying and curing when you get back. Using a fan directly on the drying bud is a bad recipe. It dries the outside of the bud while the inside stays moist. You are going to be able to rehydrate them some when you get back by placing them in airtight jars and 4-6 times a day you should open the jars, move the bud around let it sit for a while and seal it back up. This will give you a better finished product. This is the curing process. After a few days you will feel the moisture evening back out again. Hope that helps. Mould is your enemy!

Freezeing them was what i was going to say also.
Doing this will also return some of the moisture to the bud. Once thawed.

If your branches are snapping then they're dry enough to start curing. If the stems are still somewhat bendy then you've got a little time., I dunno about 3 days but you got a little time.

I'd rather have dry bud, than moldy bud for sure though.... You can fix dry bud a LOT easier than moldy bud.

I'd probably leave them until you get back and then start the cure, if the buds are too dry. Take a damp paper towel and stretch it flat over the top of a mason jar and close the mason jar, wait an hour or two and they should start absorbing some of the moisture to recure itself.

I don't think you can fix moldy buds.
And if you do the paper towel thing, make sure the water doesn't drip from the towel and into your jar which could cause mold.

If they mold your boned.

Yeah damp, i was just saying cause after the paper towel sits for a bit and droops it's easy for little drops to form. But yeah just be careful no one likes wsted buds

Throw the crispy ones in a mason jar and let the other ones hang. You are only going to be gone for 2 days. If they dry a bit too much you can always rehydrate them with lettuce, carrots or a wet cotton ball or something along those lines. I would not freeze them. Your trics will freeze and get like little icicles and you'll have the high probability of them snapping off during any movement. Cryogenics is a science and it sounds good but i'm not too sure about it. It might be fine, I'm not bashing anyone but I think it could complicate the process.

I usually just wet like two paper towels folded together, and wet only half of it, then squeeze some of that moisture to the dry half so there aren't any drops of water. Yeah but I can see how you would have to be careful with that for sure.

have you guys done freezing before? it just seems iffy to me, since the water still in the bud will crystalize, expand, and possible destroy some of the more delicate parts of the bud (thc for isntance). plus, i dont know if i have the freezer space.

if you guys do really recommend putting it in a freezer, outside its about 36 degrees and snowing the rest of the week. should i just throw em in a ziploc container and keep 'em in a safe spot outside?

i think ill try storing the crispy ones in an air tight jar for the next few hours, then ill hang them back up and really cut down on the fan

so i put them in glass jars for two hours, and they became decently moist again.

i have a curtain covering my closet, which i draped in front of the fan, which caused too much air circulation in there. so this time i put the curtain behind the fan, so there is a lot less airflow. im just hoping its enough to prevent mold. god i would be so fucking disappointed if i came back to moldy buds on friday

Your fine...When you get back just put all your nuggs together to cure. You'll be surprised to see how much moisture is gonna come out of the inside of the bud. Just keep a good eye on it while curing and burp as needed.

yeah it was quite surprising how the really crispy buds became moist after only 2 hours. they did start smelling like hay though when they dried that fast, so hopefully my new setup dries them out slow so they retain their amazing pine/lemon smell.

freezing your buds brings the moisture to the surface and freezes the trichs making them burst, Not a good idea. The fridge on the other hand might work for a few days. I wouldnt freeze them though, Its a big no no for pre cured weed.

thats what i was thinking too. seemed, intuitively, like the expansion of the water when it freezes could be pretty destructive, especially for the trichs.

freezing sounds bad. cut down on the fan and try the damp paper towl thing if ya gotta. freezing has to hurt the trichs as said. thell break right off when you remove from the freezer. a fast dry isnot the best route but itll get ya there. go with the damp paper tol mason jar. not too wet. seems like ur best bet. good luck, keep posted.

Why not just throw your buds in a big paper bag with the top folded over?
IMHO its a good way to go about things.
