What different methods do you use for looking at trichs?

so im curious as to the various techniques at looking at trichs through a microscope or magnifying glass. ive found that bending over and trying to focus on a moving branch just doesn't work too well to get an average idea of the age of the trichs and also kills my back! ive heard of people scraping them off onto glass and also cutting small leaves off with trichs on them to look under a microscope but ive also heard that the trichs on the leaves are not accurate enough to tell an average bc most of them are underdeveloped.

what area on a plant is the best place to look to get a good idea of the average age of trichs? im guessing the obvious answer is the top but i dont wana cut up my tops and its a pain tryin to look at em crouched next to the plant. especially ones in the back of my tent that are almost impossible to get to with a handheld microscope.

is there any other way without hurting the plant? i wish i had a better camera to zoom in and focus up on them.

so with much experimenting and no help from RIU ive discovered that a good way to see the trichs is to clip a leaf close to a finishing bud and look at the underside. trichs are lining the underside veins

I could tell by scanning it in w/ a scanner if you have one setup, change the settings to the highest possible resolution/dpi and scan in about a 1/4"x1/4" square of a nice trich covered leaf. Good luck.

thats what im talkin about good suggestion shoshon!

i always use a leaf off of a bud. i use tweezers to hold the leaf and sharp scissors to cut it off and then put it under a microscope.

No problem, here's what it looked like...had to clean the scanner afterwards but worked great!
