I don't know what I'm doing and I didn't know what I was doing when I started...

I've been growing with CFLs since FEB 1 and I have four plants that are doing great, I lost one to stupid mistake with nutes and another is put back on 12/12 because it suffered serious heat damage.

Here's what I've got...

Currently the girls are in a closet and now that spring is here it gets way to hot and I have to leave the door open in the closet plus open the door of the bedroom to the outside house.

12/12 room
4x 100wCFLDaylight 5600k
2x 250wCFLDaylight 5600k
2x Vornado fans

18/6
3x 100wCFLDaylight 5600K

I'm looking for lighting that's easier, cooler, cooler, adjustable with chains. big enough to grow 5 flowering plants and i'd like to eventually make a cabinet big enough to hold 4 plants that would almost be a portable box that I could take with me.

Well for starters bro.. for your 12/12 (Flower cycle) your actually using the wrong spectrum of light. 5600k should only be used for veg. cycles... not flowering cycles.

You should replace your flowering bulbs. You need to replace the 5600k bulbs you have for your flowering cycles.. with 2500k ones.

The red/orange color spectrum from the 2500k bulbs.. actually help trigger the flowering cycle in the plants.

I mean.. I've seen people use what your currently running.. for both veg & flower cycles.. but you might get better results using the suggested

light spectrum that I mentioned to you for all your flowering needs.

Trust me.. it would help you alot.

Hope this helps!

peace..

What can you get for $250? You can get an air conditioner. I am running 2 4" t-5's and a 250W MH in my veg room (5x5). I think the warmest I have ever seen it is 82.

I can always turn the ac on and take care of it that way. But I kind of want to get away from CFLs. I read through the forum "all about lights" or whatever its called and I didn't see anything about the pricing or even a websit on where to find some of the lights. Also what temperature ranges and so forth.

you should be able to pick up a 400 watt hps/mh combo light w/ an aircooled hood for under $250.you will also need a fan and ducting. MH lights are the proper color spectrum for vegging & you change over to the HPS to flower. a 400 watt light will be fine for a 2x2 or 3x3 room/closet/box. the ballast will be remote and if you set up the ducting to draw cool air into the fixture and exhaust it out of your room, you should have very little heat buildup.
google grow lights & you will find hundreds of sites, local hydro shops seem to be popping up all over. if you are handy, the same setup discribed above will run you 1/2 of that.
the only thing cooler than CFLs is LED lights but they are pricey and don't seem to be all the sellers make them out to be.I almost bought 1 a few months ago but research here convinced me to stick w/ the tried & true so I bought another HPS.
